Infinite recources?
I really enjoyed my 25+ or so hours in factorio so far, launched the rocket "beat" the game. I am interested in space dlc.

ONE PROBLEM:

I HATE the idea of having to keep finding new ores further and further away..

so my question is, does space age DLC add an infinite ore option? or have any planets you can discover that never rundry? Thanks.

so I'm not supposed to actually use the primary tool that I'm given either? why shouldn't I use the tool that I'm given that solves the one problem that I'm given that it directly solves? it's not "more interesting" to ignore the tools I'm given to pretend that things are more challenging than they really are...

but that is just one of a dozen or so issues with Fulgora, that is not the only issue.

  • infinite iron: yes
    • from metallic asteroid in space.
    • from iron bacteria on Gleba.
    • iron product from molten iron on Vulcanus
  • infinite copper: yes
    • from metallic asteroid in space.
    • from copper bacteria on Gleba.
    • iron product from molten copper on Vulcanus
  • infinite coal: yes
    • from Coal synthesis: sulfur + carbon + water.
  • infinite sulfur: yes
    • from carbonic asteroid in space.
    • from Biosulur : spoilage + bioflusx on Gleba.
  • infinite stone:yes
    • As main byproduct of lava processing, it is infinite. But you have to plan dedicated routes between planets.
  • infinite water: yes
    • water ice can be gathered from oxide asteroid in space
    • water ice as an by product of ammoniacal solution separtion on Aquilo. Aquilo is a planet with ammoniacal ocean.
    • from lake or ocean by offshore pump on Nuavis, Gleba.
  • infinite wood: yes
    • 2 wood make 1 tree seed, Recipe: tree seed. 1 seed give 4 woods after tree grow.
  • infinite yumako, jellynut:yes
    • 50 yumako, jellynut can be harvest per yumako, jellynut seed. Processing 50 yumako, jellynut will get 1 seed back. You have to apply productivity module.
  • infinite uranium, tungsten, holmium, lithium: no
    • uranium only available on Nauvis by old style. Explore the map, mine it by drill.
    • tungsten only available on Vulcanus by old style. Explore the map, mine it by drill.
    • holmium only available on Fulgora. Explore the map, mine scrap by drill. It is a product of scrap recycling.
    • lithium only avilable on Aquilo. Explore the map, mine lithium brine by pumpjack. Unlike crude oil, Each lithium brine has an numerical amount. lithium is a product of Holmium plat, lithium brine, and ammonia.

Byproduct will be a problem with infinite resource processing.
Fortunately, there are ways to discard items in space age dlc.
  • by recycler without location restriction: only 25% output of original item or ingredients back after recycling. 75% are gone.
  • drop to space by insert on space platform
  • drop to hot lava by insert on Vulcanus

Uranium is the only non-infinite ore

Even that resource is only theoretically finite. Using, or rather just finding, the limit of that finite amount would "melt the CPU", as the saying goes.
With the limited deposits found, a few dozen levels of mining productivity and some prod mods (no quality needed) the local supply will still outlast the CPU's ability to process the base. Not "infinite" in a technical sense, yet operationally the same as infinite.

"infinite wood: yes

4 woods make 1 tree seed. 1 seed give 4 woods after tree grow. It will be infinite with productivity module while making tree seeds"

Is this new? I didn't see a way to farm wood in my world

thanks for all replies. Sounds like a huge learning curve, but I'll definitely pick this up in a year when i got the cash. thanks all

You could use the tool productively rather than destructively? Use it to make production chains rather just voiding everything?

Well, I suppose if your problem is "I don't want to do anything on planet except the bare minimum to export science, electromagnetic plants, and holmium ore" then voiding everything still makes sense to solve your problem.

But again, I'm going to put that on you, rather than the game.

I'm pretty sure it's part of Space Age.

I'm sorry.
The correct loop is 2 wood -> 1 seed -> 1 tree -> 4 wood.
productivity module is not necessary for this.

Space Age Tech, using biochambers with a base level of 50% productivity you effectively get 6 wood per seed. why on earth you'd want infinite wood is another question.

There are more new features about mining in space age.
  1. A quality system. High quality drills and pumpjack drain less resource. An 1M iron ore mine with epic electric drill (resource drain 50%) can produce 2M iron ores without productivity module.
  2. New big mining drill is available. More module slots(4), bigger mining area(13x13), better resource drain multiple factor.
  3. High quality productivity module with much more productivity.

As result, the most powerful combination is a legendary big mining drill (resource drain 8%) with 4 legendary productivity module 3 (25%*4). An small 100K ore mine can produce 2.5M ores. You will get more with high level of mining productivity
100k * (1 + 25% * 4 + 10% * mining productivity levle) / 0.08

How to get high quality items is another story. It is the most biggest change in space age to me. I hate to find new mines again and again, too. I'm sure that you will love the new way to gather infinite resource in space age.
