First one is a Defense Platform with some silo to store resources for Stage 2.
When all is delivered i print Stage 2 over it. It will grow a bit and build new defenses further out., then i print Stage 3 wich removes early defenses and replaces them with more function. Get more stuff and Stage 4 and so on and so on.
You have to build it once with this mindset to start with defending and then building from there. Make Blueprints of the stages and there you go
You tell us if that is true or not of course it's true XD
Sounds as if the OP has figured out that, indeed, the first thing up must be ammo and turrets, and once that is working the rest of the platform can be built.
