What is the point of fish breeding?
First of all, I just want to say that the Spidertron needing fish to craft is objectively bad design. Even as a joke, there's no good reason it requires a fish to make, and the only point of fish breeding is to make quality fish for spidertrons, then why does there seem to be absolutely no other use for it than that?

What is the point of fish breeding? And for a technology unlocked on Gleba, why can you NOT use it on Gleba? Hello? This makes zero sense, dude. It doesn't help prod modules don't work on the recipe, either.

It's a second source of nutrients/spoilage on Nauvis.
To make more fish! Lol

I assume it has to do with "spoilage" though?

You get less nutrients from fish than it takes to grow them.

1 bioflux gives you 30 biter eggs which will give you 600 nutrients, there is no need for more nutrient or spoilage sources.
What would you be doing on Nauvis that yields enough spoilage to warrant fish breeding for nutrients? At that point you're probably just shipping in biolfux in bulk. It seems like a pointless research.
It's way easier to set up than biter eggs.

but you lose nutrients when doing so. if the whole reason is to generate nutrients or spoilage then it doesn't really do that. it would be better to just let those nutrients rot if you need spoilage.
It's a second source of spoilage/nutrients intended for before you set up the more complicated biter egg system.
This isn't rocket science guys, it not being nearly as good as eggs is entirely on purpose.

We're talking about fish breeding. It is not a source of nutrients. It consumes nutrients, more than you can possibly get back from the extra fish.

The fish->nutrients recipe makes some sense, I guess, as a temporary source of nutrients. Assuming you make it out of caught fish. But it doesn't explain the fish breeding recipe, which seems to have no purpose.

Yeah you're right.
it probably exists as a way to make legendary fish for achievement/spidertron
Even with Efficinecy modules to reduce nutrient usage on crafts for fish breeding, the only thing that comes of it is a fresh batch of nutrients in a lower output to the huge input required for it, and I don't see how that helps anyone in a significant way. Shipping fish to gleba for putting this to use would make some sense, but you can't even do that, so why is this the way it is? I mean come on what's up with this weird dilemma?

Probably just a bit of 'fun' for those who like doing weird things in their factories. (Well, it also helps get the achievement mentioned by @Pr0wn.)

Well now I'm gonna do weird stuff with fish! Lol

No promises but I do like a potential challenge. Gotta do something if I'm gonna wait for legendary korvex processing I suppose 🤣
I like to think that the fish is actually piloting it. Legendary fish = genius spidertron pilot.
