What is the point of fish breeding?
First of all, I just want to say that the Spidertron needing fish to craft is objectively bad design. Even as a joke, there's no good reason it requires a fish to make, and the only point of fish breeding is to make quality fish for spidertrons, then why does there seem to be absolutely no other use for it than that?

What is the point of fish breeding? And for a technology unlocked on Gleba, why can you NOT use it on Gleba? Hello? This makes zero sense, dude. It doesn't help prod modules don't work on the recipe, either.

I'd personally rather use legendary bioflux to make legendary capture bots, and I'm not sure that manual fishing wouldn't prove to be faster, but I imagine it would be something you could automate.
Firstly you need 5 fish in hand before you can drop them........ hmm... why did i not try this with stack inserter set to hand size 5? Obviously inserter with 4 can't drop them....

Secondly i tried this in editor mode day ago, you get normal fish back from the legendary fish you dropped in.

Yeah i suppose legendary bioflux is more tolerable item to keep around for the big amounts of legendary nutrient.

Edit: Sadly no, bulk or stack inserters can't drop them back in water either.

If dropped legendary fish become normal, then that is the end of it for me. No decent way to deal with the double spoilage timers, so no good way to automate quality spidertron crafting via fish breeding.

Fish breeding is, in my opinion, a joke from WUBE.

WUBE has often referred to fish as a joke from Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy phrase "So Long, and Thanks for all the fish" by requiring a fish to craft a Spidertron, especially when it makes no sense in a factory game to not use an expensive computer chip instead, and the secret achievement to place a fish item in a rocket and launch it.

The fish bit is hilarious and using it to power spoodertron not only gives the fish another purpose which is smart design, but in space age it's clever to expand that even more. Because legendary items are optional but it gives an overreaching long term goal to earn, like an entire legendary factory belts and all!

Considering I'm stomping most things in a rare tank 🤣 then I added a rare mk2 suit I became unstoppable I can just drive into most nests on navus and they fall to my laser grids systems on mass...

Well the problem with that is that now we need legendary fish to craft spidey. And the easiest method as pointed several times before is to recycle fish that you got with bots, instead of fish breeding, which is expensive and probably need quite a large setup to actually get necessary amount of quality fish before it spoils.

They probably need to tweak the recipe quite a bit to make it worthwhile.

They probably could tweak it if it's to painful, I'm spending so much time perfecting each planet that I'm only on my 3rd folgora and I'm in love with that planet 🤣 force sushi belt is hilarious

They're kinda nice as an imported decoration for Aquilo.

FWIW, a fish breeding / recycling setup is pretty easy: https://youtu.be/CPGn72Q5AnQ

Legendary fish last for more than 5 hours before spoiling.

it's just to keep fish alive for automated spidertron production I think. I'm just feeding some nutrients from excess eggs to the fish and always have fish available.

Fish breeding is highly limited and only has one purpose in-game:
- mass manufacturing of spidertron

Why is it so annoying to deal with? No idea. Apparently normal Spidertrons were too easy to build, so they needed to make mass manufacturing them a massive pain.

Easy, but also a massive pain in the ass for basically nothing gained. It's just something you get for free once you happen to get bioflux on Nauvis, nothing more nothing less.

Fish, this all depends on how you are using Nauvis.
If this is your science planet, then your agriculture science will spoil at a rate high enough to sustain biter egg production, plus bioflux... so fish are not necessary, there is spoilage to spare.

However, if you are doing Gleba as your science center, and Nauvis as only your Module center, then spoilage becomes a 2 fold issue. 1. An emergency supply to maintain biter egg flow with nutrients, but this requires multiple boxes and flow control... 2. This is the best way to ensure spoilage flow to efficiency production. Just keep eeking out the fish at a really low rate to maintain their reproduction plus left overs to efficiency.

hope that helps.
