Cannot string cables to poles

I seem to have forgotten how to string cables to poles. I have Pole -- PowerSwitch -- Pole -- Inserter. I want to string a cable from the 1. Pole to the PowerSwitch or from the PowerSwitch to the 2. Pole so that the inserter only works once the PowerSwitch is on. Yet I cannot string normal copper cables, even though I have them in hand - it just opens the Electric Network Info. Circuit network cables (green or red), on the other hand, do not connect both "halves" of the PowerSwitch. How do I do it? I want to manually switch it on or off, but connecting or disconnecting both halves of the PowerSwitch.

You don't use actual copper cables anymore, there is a copper cable symbol like for the red and green wire in the toolbar now.

Yeah, this stumped me too. I was wondering if I had some game breaking bug. There is a toggle at your lower interface bar that lets you pull the cables. As others have mentioned, you no longer need to craft them.

You can also put the buttons from the right onto your hotbar, where they are shown using the traditional icon. Can be useful, if you are used to select items via number keys.
