We need to talk about cliff explosives
Ok, here is the deal it's easier to get atomic rockets than it is to get cliff explosives. It's also easier to use atomic rockets to get rid of cliffs... Can someone just move this to unlock with explosives at this point... It's a bit ridiculous that I need to go to another planet with my depleted uranium cannon shells to kill a giant armored worm to get something they have been doing since the 1700s.

Nope, that's how the Space Age game mode is set up. Either disable cliffs if you don't want them, or get yourself to Vulcanus early.

I don't see any reason to enable cliffs on Nauvis if u ask me. You can't disable cliffs on other planets or other logistical challenges await anyway so....

Started a new game from scratch after buying Space Age. Thought I'd go full Vanilla.
I've been working around the cliffs and have now reached the point of "Time to do some cliff removal", when blow me down, I can't research them.
I must admit that I don't understand why they did this, unless it was to throw a spanner in the works for the likes of myself.

IIRC, the devs had expressed the opinion that cliffs were too irrelevant in vanilla. If you can just erase them the moment they got in your way, what even is the point?

Actually it takes quite a bit longer to get atom bombs than cliff explosives if you put off going to space. The devs gave you a hint with the name of the expansion....

Were the many other recent threads on cliff explosives not sufficient?

The cliffs on Nauvis are much much less intrusive than they were in vanilla. Either that or I was just lucky. I have a few ridges, and I have not changed the map in any way.

I'm having a blast. It makes sense to have technology locked at the other planets. If anything, I'd like more tech on each planet. Not less on Nauvis.

On a side note. I just love that I have to relearn the game for each planet. The mechanics are really varied.

setting up space science doesnt even need you to leave the planet and is super low effort, and then you'd also have to go to vulcanos first.
so actually no.

You can get to Vulcanus faster than you can unlock, build infrastructure, and produce atom bombs. I've all ready done so. If you think about it I'm sure you can come up with the same solution I did.

Anyone has any criticism on anything wube does:
SkILL IsSuE!

Liking the game doesn't mean i have to be a fan of every design decision.
And not liking something doesn't mean struggling with it.

Most of this makes my point you can literally have atomic weapons before blasting charges ... The concept is ridiculous. Other half just says to mod the start parameters and get rid of them... Then we have poor game concepts and design is a skill issue...

Look being able to craft atomic weapons before making something that can blow up cliffs when you already have "explosives" is a bit ridiculous and the game progression system just needs fixed.

Could just reverse the two concepts and make uranium not obtainable on the starting planet in the expansion. That would honestly make solar and batteries more viable and a deeper part of the game vs running to nuclear. Would also give better balance to pollution ect...

So, what I'm hearing is that nukes should be locked behind cliff explosives.

Seriously though, it was waaay easier to get cliff explosives for me at least. I don't think it's necessarily bad to have a super expensive option if you absolutely must destroy cliffs before going to space, but why not just remove them in the game settings if you hate them so much?

Also, I don't think moving uranium to another planet is a great idea, nauvis has to have some unique points. Maybe uranium mining could be locked behind the big drills if you want to kick unlocking it down the road.

No, we don’t need to discuss it. Search the forum for the previous dozens or hundreds of identical discussions if you want.

This is a game. It's not trying to be realistic. Cliff explosives are where they are for reasons of gameplay not for reasons of realism. Nothing about this game is realistic.

You may of course like or dislike it. The cliffs are practically non-existant on Nauvis now so they are trivial to build around. I'm on Fulgora now which has even worse natural barriers and the means to unlock those are at yet another planet (better land fill).

It's a design choice that forces you to deal with terrain before giving you the tech to ignore it. To me this is good design.

Why does everybody always jump down people's throat if they mention things like cliff explosives? It makes this forum feel like a rabid fanclub that doesn't tolerate criticism of the game.

It's not a big deal, since you don't really need them that much anymore, but iIt does feel incredibly gamey and, as OP said, incongruous that you can unlock nukes before cliff explosives. And what harm would it even have done to keep them on Nauvis? The only thing you can use them for is blowing up cliffs. That's not exactly game changing.
