I've been working around the cliffs and have now reached the point of "Time to do some cliff removal", when blow me down, I can't research them.
I must admit that I don't understand why they did this, unless it was to throw a spanner in the works for the likes of myself.
I'm having a blast. It makes sense to have technology locked at the other planets. If anything, I'd like more tech on each planet. Not less on Nauvis.
On a side note. I just love that I have to relearn the game for each planet. The mechanics are really varied.
so actually no.
SkILL IsSuE!
Liking the game doesn't mean i have to be a fan of every design decision.
And not liking something doesn't mean struggling with it.
Look being able to craft atomic weapons before making something that can blow up cliffs when you already have "explosives" is a bit ridiculous and the game progression system just needs fixed.
Could just reverse the two concepts and make uranium not obtainable on the starting planet in the expansion. That would honestly make solar and batteries more viable and a deeper part of the game vs running to nuclear. Would also give better balance to pollution ect...
Seriously though, it was waaay easier to get cliff explosives for me at least. I don't think it's necessarily bad to have a super expensive option if you absolutely must destroy cliffs before going to space, but why not just remove them in the game settings if you hate them so much?
Also, I don't think moving uranium to another planet is a great idea, nauvis has to have some unique points. Maybe uranium mining could be locked behind the big drills if you want to kick unlocking it down the road.
You may of course like or dislike it. The cliffs are practically non-existant on Nauvis now so they are trivial to build around. I'm on Fulgora now which has even worse natural barriers and the means to unlock those are at yet another planet (better land fill).
It's a design choice that forces you to deal with terrain before giving you the tech to ignore it. To me this is good design.
It's not a big deal, since you don't really need them that much anymore, but iIt does feel incredibly gamey and, as OP said, incongruous that you can unlock nukes before cliff explosives. And what harm would it even have done to keep them on Nauvis? The only thing you can use them for is blowing up cliffs. That's not exactly game changing.
