Why you can't use chests in space?

I think it's just stupid. Conveyors and manipulators work but chests... no we can't allow it.

The Space Platform Hub is basically a big chest that you can use inserters to add/remove items from. I haven't tried to create a regular chest on a platform. Seems very odd that it would not be allowed..

This is not allowed and it very restrict design of the ship. You should either path all items that you want to accumulate through hub or use very long conveyors as workaround, both is ridiculous.

Btw if you use hub as storage you either should keep in mind that you should disable unload of the ship on all planets, other way if some of planets will request goods from the Hub it will send requested.

You can't restict specific goods unload either as you can't limit amount. You can't say to ship "leave at least 100 of good, other can unload".

I had same issue so in end broke down and got a mod to allow it. In my runs I depend on storage too highly.

why are you shipping ammo and rockets around? there is nothing you can produce on the station that you cant also produce locally on any planet you dont need to store iron plates or any intermediate procude just make ammo and store that. your storeroom should be big to begin with but i find it stupid that you cant pull out of the extensions pieces.

Yeah it is a real problem that you can't put a minimum amount, because of that i keep launching the tier 4 belt that the ship just dropped, but the hub have plenty of storage with the quality storage extension i have more than 1000 storage place and i can keep more than 300000 unit of differents science in orbit

Chests would be way to efficient to store items. A storage upgrade for the center hub is 4x4 spaces for 20Slots. In the same area you could store 768Slots in Steel Chest space.
Sofar i had no trouble with space if you keep in mind that 1 space rock takes 1 slot but a belt can store 8 space rocks on it within 1 space of area.
Never put Space Rocks in your center hub!

it's sounds like: "We couldn't come up with a decent solution. So we a just restricted chests". Like them restricted horizontal mirroring of thrusters.

you need a little bit of calcite half a belt is more then enough calcite to make fuel and even smelt on the platform a dedicated ship that deliveres calcite is more then enough......

It is just that. Why else set a above 0,1m/s Gravity requirement on chest. The thrusters too, are set up that way so you cant build an efficient row of them.
They have made it so the space ships would have a similar style. Cargo in the center with addons branching and V shaped thrusters.

You have dedicated ship for calcite delivery, but same ship need calcite for moving, why i should overload it instead just limited unload? I know that there is workarounds, but how about adequate solution?
