Quality Fish
How do I get them?

No reason, definitely not trying to get a achievement…

There's a fish breeding recipe.
You can use it to turn 2 fish into 3.

Fish recycle into themselves, so you can just loop the 3rd fish of each recipe cycle's output through a recycler with quality modules, until you get uncommon fish.

As soon as you get at least 2 uncommon fish, you breed them. And you repeat the pattern. As soon as you get two tier N+1 fish; you have effectively access to infinite of them and can delete the construct for tier N.

If you want to babysit it, you could even collect fish into a box and reset recipes to the higher tier of an existing single tier of the required total build. But that's about as boring as watching grass grow or paint dry.

Fish breeding, as far as I was made aware, is similar to pentapod eggs and iron/copper bacteria mitosis recipes in that it ignores ingredient freshness and always outputs a 100% freshness product. So you can basically loop this indefinitely.

All it takes is some nutrients, which you can get from shipping in spoilage to Nauvis.

(Yes; this also means that as soon as you have two legendary fish - you effectively have infinite legendary fish, just as long as you run one breeding cycle as soon as those two fish are almost going to spoil. Which means a consumption rate of something like 1 spoilage every ... what? 5 hours or so? worth of upkeep.)

I know, but recycling Spidertrons is funnier.

Funnier, yes. But also kind of cruel to suggest as the only option to someone that doesn't know any better.

Until now I thought it was the only option.

You are evil. And it is marked as the answer.

You have access to infinite legendary nutrients? Teach me your ways.

Well, the reason why I said it is actually because I've never been to Gleba and I remember that one of the devs told us over a year ago about being able to get a legendary fish by recycling spidertrons and that that's why they made an achievement out of it. I didn't knew fish breeding existed.

Fish removed from water on Nauvis will spoil on Nauvis in 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 50 seconds. You don't have to import spoilage you can create it from fish right there on Nauvis.

I'm not sure you can reasonably manage the sheer quantity of nutrients you'd need for fish breeding by deconstructing fish.
StormX Nov 9, 2024 @ 12:38pm
Got mine by recycling fish. You need a recycler with 4 Legendary T3 Quality Modules and a lot of fish from the sea. Thus you have a 5% chance to get a random quality fish back. Took me 2000 fish
