Efficiency modules nerfed a little?
Hi folks,

Starting my first 2.0 space age run. Pre 2.0 one of my favorite tactics for a relaxed game was to get efficiency modules and drop them into all my high polluters; coupled with solar this gave me a really small pollution cloud and an easy time keeping the cloud in my walls. The water in my base was even still blue and I was able to keep trees alive... 😄 (though that was helped by the krastorio 2 air filters...)

Anyway, I remember efficiency modules reducing pollution significantly, even on the level 1 ones, and I see all the 2.0 9nes do is reduce energy consumption (which i realize will also reduce pollution indirectly, but not as much as I recall).

So, guess I'm wondering if this was a change in 2.0, or if I'm just remembering it wrong and vanilla efficiency modules were always like that. (Or maybe K2 or SE changed them, and I'm just used to playing with mods...)

Also, while I'm here, any tips for trying a lower pollution factory?

The latter. Efficiency modules haven't changed. (At least, normal quality ones haven't.)
Nope the pollution scrubbing is from reducing the energy cost. Its always been capped at 80% reduction so eff modules higher than tier 1 aren't really worth it.

counterpoint: if you have better efficiency modules you can keep the 80% reduction while also using speed or productivity modules.
its kinda funny but i never realized this until i saw a legendary t3 efficiency module gives a 125% discount to energy use. i was so confused how this would be useful until i figured out it can offset other modules.
When you have t3 modules you are better off using productivity in the assembler and speed in all the beacons.

It always reduced pollution exactly as much as it reduced energy consumption. 80% efficiency means 80% less energy consumption, and 80% less pollution if applicable. Look at your pollution graph or at the info in the machines and you'll see this exactly.

This is also why productivity modules increase pollution so much more than you would think, because they increase energy consumption, which also increases pollution, and they increase pollution per energy consumption on top of it.
