Any Space Age mods around to keep enemies challenging?
I like Factorio but a lot of its appeal for me stems from having to defend against waves of enemies. Sadly, as we all experienced, in mid game at the latest you are virtually untouchable and can stomp everything. Challenge removed.

I know for sure there USED to be some mods to keep enemies challenging for a longer time but it seems none are up to date for 2.0 / Space Age.
I have checked mods.factorio.com but came up nil.

If anyone knows a working difficulty mod for 2.0, let me know.
Thanks!

Don't know how you searched the mod portal, I immediately found a bunch of biter related mods that supposedly work with 2.0, most of them adding new types of them but also one that seems to introduce a random mutation system where biters have chances to get modified stats based on evolution factor.

Also you can check if Rampant still works with 2.0, but from what I remember that mod already was quite unstable before and isn't actively maintained so it's a dicey proposition.

Have you thought of changing the map generation settings for enemy expansion? You can control how often they expand, how big groups and how far from previous nests. All of those have huge effect on difficulty. To the point i'd say on hardest you can never make defenses that will hold them back.

Mmm, I may have filtered the wrong way, I checked the 'combat' tag, should have selected 'enemies'. Yes I can see some now.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Big-Monsters?from=updated sounds good but also quite scary. I would not want to install military boosting mods just to deal with it :D

There is a rampant fix that will probably get updated when the dev finishes SA.

If you haven't seen it or tried it yet, there is also a vanilla map preset option during the time you are setting up the game to select 'Deathworld'.

there's an entire page of enemy settings you can tweak upon world creation. I'm sure with even half of those turned up you'll be dying on repeat
