Why is this game so popular?

This game isn’t for everyone, as the factory/automation genre is kinda niche.
Anyway Factorio isn’t the 1st In genre it was the one that truly catapulted it in popularity, and without it Satisfactory, Techtonica and Foundry wouldn’t exist.

you also have minecraft mod packs that focus on automation, like for example skyfactory. factorio scratches the same itch.

pretty much all that and more. I design music sometimes in this. It can be overwhelming at first but the more you play, the more you learn and it is satisfying to reach your goals.
