is it possible to destroy a piece of land?

A piece of land correcting two islands. I want to destroy that connecting piece in order to defend my base better.

The base game doesn't allow you to do this but if you really want it there are mods that add such items.

Removing land is would be extremely OP, as there are no flying enemies. It creates a completely invulnerable defence layer. If you are not interested in challenge, there's mods that let you do that.

Or you can just play on peaceful.

Can you imagine what would happen if the devs put water fill in the vanilla game? Swimming bugs that move just a bit slower than the ground bugs but the flamethrowers do no damage to bugs in the water. You'd have to defend your shores instead of not worrying about them (shudder).
