I remember reading that for older game saves to work with new DLC/Update we need too go into our current game and delete all the train tracks? Because they are switching the train system over to a new version that won't be compatible and one of their news letters said they would let everyone know the dead line to do this?

But I almost feel like even if this is still a thing. We could probably just revert to previous version with steam feature. Then deleted the tracks and save. Switch back to current version? Does anyone know what I am referring too? Do we still need to do this?

No, "old" train tracks will still work, you just won't be able to build new ones with the old curves.
They did say that the old curves working would be stopped at some point in future updates but it would be something like 2.1, which should be at least several months after 2.0.

Thank you? It is a little confusing though?

I could read it as...
1. As long as I play when 2.0 comes out. My save file will be converted to 2.0. And will work in 2.1
2. Even if I have played my 1.1 save file in 2.0. Thus it's technically updated to 2.0 and thus a 2.0 Game Save. It still won't work in 2.1 since they are dropping 1.1 compatibility and the old shapes won't even be included.

But I imagine all this means is that in 2.1 if my save still had legacy 1.1 tracks. They would hopefully just vanish? Kind of like a mod being removed? I will likely play it safe and manually replace/delete them once I am playing 2.0.

However thank you this still helped a lot I thought this was going to be a 2.0 issue. Not a 2.1 issue. Big difference.

When versions went from 0.15 to 0.16 (I might have the version numbers wrong since it was a few years ago) the devs did something similar. Invalid recipes still had the machines set up but the set up wouldn't produce the old product(s), you had to remove the old non-functional set up, and when you saved the file updated to ver 0.16. There was a hard cut off for that somewhere around 0.17 where the save files weren't compatible and wouldn't update but the devs gave us something like a year to update files before the cut off.

I don't think the conversion program was included in the version update so best to update your files ASAP. We know RCUs are being removed from the game so the entire RCU set up will be non-functional but the rails, both valid and invalid, will still work, you just won't be able to build invalid rails anymore. After a certain number of updates invalid rails will no longer work, not sure what that will entail they may disappear or they may function as obstacles that you have to remove so that you can remember what you were doing with your intersections.

Basically, what they are doing for 2.0 is add some code to still support the old rail curves to prevent them from being removed, while forcing the rail building code to ignore the existence of those.

The cleanup of the old curves when they won't be supported anymore (2.1 or something similar) already exists, it's the same code that removes entities that are not in the data when loading the save.
It happens when you load a modded save without the mod(s) enabled already (it also deletes the items in various inventories that are not in the data).
So the old curves will just vanish at that point if you still had some in the save.
