This complaint is ironic since one of the big motivations was to combat bloat by giving just one mechanism for improving everything, rather than needing to have a zillion new recipes for all of the zillion kinds of items you'd otherwise want higher tiers for.

Quality is optional. Standard gear will still work as it always has. There will be at least one new achievement for quality but it too is optional.

Since this is a game about mass production there needs to be large resource sinks. Infinite science is currently the only such resource sink. I am not completely sold on quality, but it does make sense for this type of game to have a second resource sink.

Hmm, pretty sure I remember at least two such achievements incoming. So you're right, there's at least one.

Number one is worse than you think.

Fill the equipment grid of legendary power armor MK2 with legendary items. It's worse because the equipment grid gets one row and one column added for each level of quality. In most cases the step from epic to legendary results in double bonuses so the 10x10 grid grows to 15x15, 225 spots rather than 100 to fill.

Time will tell, but 2) sounds 20x worse than 1) in terms of resource needed.

Edit: auto-correcting time. it likely won't be 20x worse. It looks closer to 2x or maybe 3x on average, at most. Well, at least if both are done aiming for a low cost. But then we know for a fact that the Spider recipe will change because RCU will be removed from the game. So good luck guessing.

One thing I don't like is how it may introduce luck to speedruns. Imagine if wr requires you to luck out on a legendary prod module.

Might be the meta, in search of that badge, to use large items, Fusion reactors and exoskeleton come to mind. I'm also not sure if items with a longer, or shorter, production chain are better, or worse, targets for a recycle loop. The combinatorial mathematics is deeper than I'm willing to go for precision. I'm just gonna deal with the results in-game and settle for "good enough".

I can already see many speedrunners rip'ing a run simply for lack of luck on some aspect of quality. Luck has always been a part of it, just more hidden usually. Most categories disallow a set seed for that very reason. Each runner has their own limit, but if they don't get a "happy map" in some number of re-rolls they just return to the menu and restart the timer.

Just to point out my view:
No one would be complaining if the devs just confirmed that Spoiling can be turned off without affecting anything (like pollution) (seriously, people are irritated that they will need a mod, like fridge or something, just one confirmation that spoiler can be turned off, and done!)

And for the quality: This system is horrable VS other mods that do better. HOWEVER, if they added, in setting, a way to adjust the value of % (bonus higher tier items receive), JUST like most mod do! (<- Aka they have a default, Balance, setting/value, that it's completely up to you to change said values, to mach however you want, to enjoy better the game).

I will repeat the last part: If, in settings, we can manually change the % bonus, the quality system is absolutely AMAZING (fingers cross a mod to allow manually change this. Just like how many mods allow grind size, inventory, stack, and more to modify)
