[Space Age DLC] Why not pre-order?
Could it be that 2024.10.21 is not really a final release date?
My guess is that they don't want to risk setting a real date and not delivering and angering the fans.

If not, why can't you buy the full game now?

To others who think that the base game is a full game, I have to say that it is not, the mods are basically beta test dlc, I am willing to pay for a full premium game experience, even if it is not fully complete now.

Why pre-order?

I know that companies like to try and lock in potential customers early, so that the company still probably gets your money even if you would lose interest by the release date rolls around.

But why would you want to insist they do that?

Based on previous statements, they also don't seem the type to try and give "pre-order bonuses" to further entice people into pre-ordering. So you wouldn't even be getting something if they did do this.

The full game can be purchased, for a long time now, on the store page, as you'd expect.

Thank you for your opinion.

Because pre-orders (especially for non-physical goods like video games) are an anti-consumer practice.

Because they index the price & adjust for inflation, the local currency may not be as stable in the future. I know this because I bought Factorio before the price increase. It's a win-win situation for them as they get money now, but I think it won't happen as they don't want to set a hard deadline like that.

Preorders have no real advantage for customers, so why should they offer them to us?

Also, Preorders won't really change how a potential delay would be received, so that's probably not a reason.

Most game companies do pre-orders to generate revenue to finish a project. WUBE made enough money on the base game to pay for development of the expansion with out any book keeping tricks. No pre-orders needed.

Pre-ordering is a bad consumer practice. Please stop doing it. Unless you're a streamer who can make money off a ♥♥♥♥ game, you should never buy any game until seeing reviews or actual gameplay.

Stop falling for hype and lies. Don't buy any product until you see what you're getting.

Yep, pre-ordering = anti consumer and gains you nothing or at least something trivial.

I do have to say Giants software with FS25 is making their pre-order bonus just a free DLC that anyone can buy later. I'd rather they didn't do such practices at all but if they have to do pre orders, that's the way it should be done. No exclusive crap.

Is the DLC going to be free? If not then the base game price INCREASE they did post release is ridiculous.

wishlisted - glad to be able to do so

wishing you guys the best of luck with all the dev work between now and release date

you know we are all going to click that "buy now" button as soon as it appears

because most of us appreciate that you guys are rare

plain and simple

you had a genius idea that you turned into a best in class game

and the expansion is going to be more of the same

i can't wait for it

i'm sure it will be awesome

and i know thousands, tens of thousands, likely hundreds of thousands of other fans are going to validate the quality of your work by giving you millions of dollars on day one for the fruits of your labours

i'm sure you know that you are held in the highest regard among so many game players

and you will see that reflected in the sales of this expansion

thanks for all the great work

it will cost me a relatively small amount to buy a single copy - but i know that between us all we will likely make you rich

and you all deserve it

congrats and best wishes

it's hard to make a decent splash in the games industry - especially as an indie developer

so it is great to see you guys achieve that dream

enjoy it

you've earned it

live long and prosper you splendid game devs :-)

Irrelevant to the DLC.

its simple, they are not in need for money because Factorio is one of the best games ever and they sold milions of copies, they can wait :) also i haven´t seen any more game polishing, debugging and optimilizing then in Factorio, im proud to be from the same country as devs (even thou im lazy as fu**) :D

Exactly this.

Not offering a pre-order feels like the other thing's that WUBE doesn't do, like the game having a $34,99 price tag to make it feel cheaper than it is, or taking part in the steam sale culture to create a false sense of urgency and make people with bad impulse control buy a game they won't actually play.

The big question is: Why on earth would you want to pre-order a game? Maybe if you want to pre-load a 100GB game so you can play it right on release, but apart from that I don't see any reason to do so.

Even the best developers can fail your taste, there is never a guarantee. I myself thought I would always buy every DLC from Rimworld, but the newest one doesn't do it for me. I thought I would love every single 3D Zelda game, but the 2011 Zelda (Skyward Sword) was rather medium, so I didn't buy it. If I had pre-odered those (would make sense, I liked everything else from these) I would be almost 100 bucks poorer and would own 2 pieces of software that I wouldn't want to own.

Never pre-order.
