Price of factorio
Hi,
Can you explain why Poland has one of the highest price of the game?
Is the exchange rate not updated? How is that 35$ in US different with 160 PLN (about 40$ as date 05.07.2024)

Regional pricing is more complicated than just the exchange rate.
It isn't just Factorio but rather it is steam's recommendations that have not been updated to reflect changes in exchange rates for a while so it affects a lot of games on steam, especially those that were released recently or had a change in prices in the last couple years.

There has already been several threads on the topic, but keep in mind that the steam forums are a place where only players are active so if you wanted to raise the issue towards the devs then the official forums or the "contact us" from their website would be a better way to do so.
You can read up on the regional pricing system here: https://steamdb.info/blog/valve-price-matrix-2022-update/

As Pun mentions, it's more than just the exchange rate.

The page also includes the recommended prices (by Steam), for a $34.99 game ( https://steamdb.info/blog/valve-price-matrix-2022-update/#34-99-usd ).

They recommend 161,99zł, so seems Wube have rounded this down a little if you see 160.

Edit: Fixed URL due to Steam being dumb :-)
Don't put parenthesis directly before/after an url, it includes them in the link and gives a wrong url as a result when clicking it.
The steam recommendations are outdated since a year or so and developers have the freedom to update the pricing - which it appears devs refuse to do so.
The question is, is it because they ignore the problem or they are just greedy?

Well, Hades 2 on release got a massive vibe check just becuse they used outdated recommendations and it will happen again with Factorio in 3 months - exactly when Poles will see the price button next to DLC.
Hades 2 did the right thing, let's see if Factorio will do the same

I get that anything and everything gets put onto "WUBE GREEDY BAD!", but how do you even excuse this accusation?

And you know what is laughable about it?

If Poland is so rich that keeping a higher price just in that one region gives you noticable profit to a point of being able to see it as greed... doesn't that mean the steam guidelines are correct?

I see you are a backflips enjoyer.
First of all - I did not accused, question with a range is not per se accusation.
Second - The last part prove you have no idea what are you talking about XD
It's a question that makes very little sense though, especially since the pricing follows steam's recommendations.

If greed was part of the reason, there would be no regional pricing at all and every place would be paying in euro/dollars directly converted to their regional equivalent, instead of only affecting one specific country.

Read up on poisoning the well.

I'm not saying you did that, no, of course. Maybe you did, but I wouldn't say you did. You did though, didn't you? I never once said you did.

Whoever told you technically correct is the best kind of correct lied to you.

I think you missed the point about the not updated recommendation table which spiked during the COVID outbreak and it was never ever touched again, since 2022. The concerns were brought multiple times to the devs and the sole fact that only Switzerland "pays more" should be a big red flag something does not add-up.

The devs are the last one to confirm the pricing, it not forced by steam but *recommended*.
To be blunt - "just following orders" is not an excusse which leaves 2 options - the problem was ignored (by doing nothing or "just following recommendations") or other unknown motive (which is not a possitive one).
If it comes to money its either greed or spite, although there might be more but those are the most popular.

If you belive its just ignoration - thats fine, if you think the other half, thats fine too. Trying to say its something different? That's a problem here.

I don't think blindly defending devs by using "recommendations" from 2022 is making it justice - yes we love this game too and this issue affect a part of audience, gaslightining Poles here will make it only worst.

I think thats all to it, if devs continnue ignoring the issue waiting for steam pricing recommendations the Factorio will be vibe checked like Hades 2, it is just bound to happen when we all grab our wallets to pay for the DLC.

Ah, PS: About just following recommendations, they tend to set price by hand so its not that automatic system did that for them, they reviewed all prices and still went with 160zł anyway
What makes you think valve has not updated the recommendations after the last time they leaked? The regional pricing recommendations are not public info.

"Not public" you say? How so every developer had those recommendations, maybe try adding your game to steam and see? Do you know how media knew about all sales on steam before they appeared, which was indeed "not public info"?
There is big orange box which state exact dates of sales since like 8-7y on the steam workshop landing page, glad steam have those NDA's and people didnt leak them lol.

But I am glad thats this is the only issue you have with my post.

If it is public info then please provide a link. If you can't give a link it proves it is not public info.

https://partner.steamgames.com/dashboard select your game, find the pricing tab and type for example 40$ and here you go. You can select More informations if you need too.

It's not that hard and thanks for bumping the topic, do you need anything more?

Steamdb also shows the valve recommended prices for all currencies:
https://steamdb.info/sub/88199/
And in case of Factorio it is very close to those recommended values, except for 3 currencies, the polish one not being one of them.
