Construction robots not working
Hi,

have a look at the screenshot. My Construction robots don´t build or rebuild. Reparing will be done instantly but the robots get lost as soon as the object is destroyed.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3218467263

Affects only robots located in the ports. Robots in my backpack or other spidertrons working properly.

What´s the issue here please?

The game only checks ghosts until it finds one that cannot be done right now or 5 that can be done every tick. And it counts all ghosts on the entire map. Including those that are not inside a construction network. So if you have 6k ghosts somewhere that can't build those ghosts it will take 10 minutes to go through them all.

You should double-check what your buffer chests (green) are set as because the roboport doesn't list their content in the tooltip of the roboport, meaning that they are not part of the network's supplies.
Hurkyl Apr 10, 2024 @ 10:36am
Do the warnings say that robots are missing supplies?

If this is not a small roboport network and is instead part of a very large (e.g. factory-wide) network, there could be an edge case where faraway bots get the order to rebuild the item, so it will take a while for bots to get there. Or they might never get there if there is a large region with a lack of roboport coverage and they have to keep turning around to recharge.

So as a sanity check, try to look at the bots in map mode and see if there are any distant bots trying to move this way, or otherwise doing something weird.

Thanks both to you.
The network ist as small as it shows on the screenshot. And those chests are full with the needed supplies.
the robots have been manually inserted into the port.

I don´t get it. By the Way, after more than 10min of waiting, they have done their job.
But this behavior seems not as inteded. They should start building instantly.

Just a wild guess. Are the chests in the orange zone or green zone of the roboport?

The bots can build in the green zone but only access chests in the orange zone.

There is a screenshot that even has the mouse over the roboport (and alt mode enabled), why do you need a wild guess?
It's the same about the size of the network, the dotted lines give you the answer.

The delay before they started working is probably the answer, the way construction with robots works is that there is a limited list of "active" things to be built so if your factory is on a large scale with a lot of stuff to be built by robots then it can cause delays like that.

The "wild guess" is due to the ghosts being belts and undergrounds and the visible chests, which are in-range, not showing any of either.

My UPS still at 60/60. i´ve tried a lot of micromanagement. No success.
Removing structures are processed instantly.... while building takes in average 10min. May be i have to live with that. Thank you all for your assistance!

There are also blue inserters and a substation as ghosts and those are in chests that are shown, so that wouldn't be the whole answer at least, but that's true.

The UPS going down will, of course, also make bots seem slower. Bots can still be slow at full UPS. I don't know the numbers, but there is a limited amount of "orders" the system will process in one second. If you have tens of thousands of bots working on short jobs it can still cause delays. Usually not a problem, mostly because it's unusual to have that much work even if the base is big. Adding on several outposts at once while also doing repairs and replacements on the wall can get that busy.

Aye, I did miss the inserters and substation, as well as a lamp I now see also.

I also, somehow, missed the "not" in not as small as shown, in an earlier post. Like as not the "wall" is one zone. Could also have bots doing as @Hurkyl pointed out, flying cross-map to fill requests.

Only 3-4k Construction robots >without active orders<. Not a single logistic robot build yet.
Thats all robots on the map :steamsad:

You could test out Hurkyl's suggestion.
  1. Move the spiders and engineer so they are out of range of a section of the wall
  2. Open the map view
  3. Turn on the view of bots working, which is on in the screenshot
  4. Place a half dozen belts between the single roboport and the wall
  5. Zoom out the map to see the whole base
  6. Watch for yellow bot squares moving and see where they come from and where they go

Worst-case would be for the bots try to fly from one section to another where there isn't part of "their" network and they have to keep zig-zagging to recharge. Even with easy recharging, however, it can still be a long flight sometimes.

Are you playing with Krastorio2? If so, maybe those Roboports are set to logistic mode?
knighttemplar1960 Apr 10, 2024 @ 1:11pm
Which mods are you using? Have you checked for a mod conflict?
Petzibear Apr 11, 2024 @ 11:10pm
I am playing with rampant. so not a total conversion of the game. Robots are not touched by any mod i use.
