Doubling the right turn options is likely just cosmetic.

Lol I didn’t notice I doubled the right turn options.

Well, 3 right turns makes a left turn, sort of.

True.

But at the same time, it makes things weird at the outer edges of a rail network. Building an extra outer ring to make left turns possible would annoy me too much, but I guess there's no rules against it, so if one has the patience for it, why not.
It doesn't have to be weird. Any place you don't have the 4 intersections to make the turn you can just put a roundabout as a rail cap. Since they are on the edges the traffic should be low anyway.

As far as roundabouts in general go they allow slightly less traffic than a straight 4 way intersection. If Alex jumps into the thread he'll explain it to all of us again.

That's basically what a cloverleaf interchange does, right? 🤣

Yeah, I suppose definitions of weird can vary, because that screenshot right there is weird, to me at least. Like the other option I mentioned is also weird to me.

About roundabouts having less than S tier capacity, I don't care and I have no good reason to care. I don't double any track, I have single tracks going in each direction and the past has proven that my UPS gets destroyed way before train traffic causes any issue. Even my busiest roundabouts have their share of downtime, without me designing anything about rails in a planned way to lessen traffic here or make more trains pass there.

I think we had a discussion about that before. But as a reminder, I mine and smelt ore at each patch. There's no downside to it once you have bots and a simple smelter BP. On the plus side, it cuts overall train traffic by about half.

So when I see players doubling tracks (sometimes beyond doubled), designing nasty looking crossings and jumping through hoops in hope that the resulting train traffic won't hold them back, I admit I do laugh at all their efforts, fruitful or not.

'Cause I'm just a lazy bastard.
Yeah, I get it. I run ore to smelters because one of my smelter setups can handle the input from 2-3 ore patches once i have beacons. The ore is usually in the outskirts of the base where traffic is lower and distances are longer so traffic there isn't a problem and the plates go to where traffic can be denser.

I haven't run the numbers so I can't say for sure but I suspect that the UPS draw from both systems are similar or else there would be a definitive guide somewhere that I can't find.
