Enemies never attack me?
I am running on freeplay with normal settings and have many machines including a steam engine but still the biters never attack me, if I go near their base they attack but they never attack my base

What gives?

How long are you in the game?
They will come after you shortly after your pollution reaches them.
Did you change map settings? Your pollution (red stuff on the map - hit alt if hidden) once it's over their base they slowly gather a small party and send them after you.

Kane My pollution has nearly reached them so the action will start soon lol

Have to ask, but did you set the map to Passive enemies / Peaceful?

Same here. It took 10 hours or so before the first wave arrived. And even then it was from the opposite direction that I'd prepared for :(

In one game I didnt get anny biters aswell, later on my hunt for oil I discovered that I was on a large island without any biter nests :/

Just wait. They will come, in some time. It varies allot from game to game. On my latest save im in a desert biome with no trees sucking up the pollution and well. We started getting attacks shortly after we started our factory. Our defences gets attacked so much it feels like my endgame save i made before steamrelease.

Damn unlucky zef, but ya, those desert biomes can be areal killer with the rate pollution spreads, while forests are your uber barrier... that and very large stretches of water, nothing absorbs pollution like the sea apprently xD

Yeah, terrain will greatly change how frequently you get attacked. If you have a large body of water next to you, and lots of trees, then you can live in peace for many hours. But spawn like in a place such as Zefnoly mentioned, and the biters will be knocking on your door fairly quickly.

If you want to up the challenge, there are various mods for it. Hardcorio comes to mind, which will generate timed waves of enemies to attack you -- no matter your pollution levels.

is there any way to change a peaceful game to a non peaceful game? i have a factory fortress built gushing pollution with auto turrets set up but they never attack, and they are so highly evolved now that to attack them is nearly suicide. Gentlemen this is WW1

Do your pollution get to them? Also if they are hard you should focus on making explosives and better weapons. I really suggest you to massproduce the attacker, defender and those other drone capsules you can throw and research on the amount of them you can have at the same time. Then it will be much easier to attack them.

EDIT:
You could always build turrets just by their bases to attack them, it works but it feels like an easy shortcut.

Open the console by pressing ~ and enter these two commands:
/c game.peaceful_mode = false /c game.forces["enemy"].kill_all_units()
First one disables peaceful mode, second one kills all peaceful biters, non-peaceful biters will spawn soon after.

if it reaches them. part of being good is positioning your pollution so it does not penetrate the forests and grass tiles
