Is it possible to reserve spots for materials in a passive provider chest?
I have outposts where i deliver reserve materials for repairs like walls, turrets and repairpacks. I got one cart on every train with 3 spots reserved for these 3 different materials. But at the outpost my current system of storing them is placing 3 different provider chests with 3 different smart inserters filtered to pick one of these for each thing. But how can i reserve spots on chests? Is it only possible on trains? I tried to do the same way you reserve spots on the train wagoon on the chest but it doesn't work.

No. You can not reserve spots in passive provider chests.

You could always use a stationary cargo wagon as a storage system on the other end. But that's pretty ugly.

You can use combiners to do basic logic tests, so only run an inserter if the chest contains than X items of a certain type.

The reason i want it for the provider chest in the first place is because i got maintance drones repairing the outposts after attacks

If you connect the smart inserter to the passive provider chest with a logic wire. You can set a limit on the item in the smart inserter.
