The flush button is not intended to be a fluid sink but to make your life a bit easier for example when you accidentally put the wrong liquid in a pipe.
Dealing with byproducts is also part of the game.
If you want a fluid sink you can use a mod like this:
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/fluid-void-extra
Unfortunatey when I saw this function introduced I immediately thought that automating it could bring back my idea of a pumping hub (handy when playing with angel to "purify" all the different kinds of waste waters the hydrorefining creates)...HOWEVER...With the game "reserving" entire pipe sections for a singular fluid my former Sewage Treatment plant is still just a thing of the past.
I would very much prefer the devs to allow an "advanced" option on fluid mechanics where fluids only reserve a single, UNBROKEN (as in just pipes seperated by pumps and or valves), section of piping so that we might make use of this flush section...because with the current state of the mechanics I don't find any use for this flush-option...ever...
