Those cliffs look AMAZING. So much better looking than current. Well done.

I hate cliffs tho. I wish they redid all the plannets to remove the cliffs from vulkonos. Or better yet, started working on the game again from scratch to temove cliffs. If I dislike cliffs, no one should get them!

The fire looks a little boring. Could have been mixed with different colors such as blue (sulfur) or green (copper). We need mods at day one!

i'll give them a day or two to play, but mods better start flowing on day 3:steammocking:

I'm 99.999% certain that day 1 will have some mods available.

I expect at least the following to be installable on day 1
  • Editor extensions
  • Rate calculator
  • Cursor enhancements

There's a pretty good chance there will be at least one mod to rename the quality levels and one mod to restore the RCU to the recipes it will be removed from. There's also been talk of one to rename the green planet, so far unnamed.

Cliffs are cancer. Hope Vulcanus will still be fun without cliffs.

I like the cliffs. Adds to the challenge.

I always play without cliffs, but I will leave them switched on for the expansion. Will add to the feeling of playing something completely new.

Cliffs in reality are not that annoying. Like sure playing SE with them when you forgot to take them is kind of lmao. But still not end of the world.

It looks cool, but I'm not sure if it will be fun for me. I enjoy building my factory and trying to optimize it, but i don't really want to explore and try to fit a factory into an awkward space _ just isn't fun to me. Same thing with the space platforms, just not interested in that particular puzzle of cramming a factory into a small space. The more I see, the more I think I will stick with the base game. Oh well, I am still happy for those who will like it, but I wish they had gone a different direction.

I'm almost on the same page. I will get the expansion and I will give SA a try. I've not used an overhaul mod, and had no plans to. The basic version of the game has been enough to keep me busy. I do, however, want to get the elevated rails, which won't be available outside the expansion, so I'll get the expansion. Having spent the money on it, I might as well at least try the space stuff. I do like the puzzles it offers, both limited space to build and expanded production. I just hope the production is not expanded so far as to make it more of a pain than a pleasure.

I've watched someone playing a couple overhauls and the extra stuff was at an insane level of complexity. Those mods are popular, so there is obviously folks who are "in to" that. I'm not one of them. SA has been claimed to be about double the content and about double the time to "finish" as the original. I might be happy with that, and I'll give it an honest chance. Even if I do complete SA to "victory" I doubt I'll play it much, instead returning to my vanilla version. But, after one time through, I might change my mind. Never know.

and trains - someone told me they don't like trains - so they are like being distri..... scrimintsr..... dinminsrap...... { deep breath } discriminstrated against unless the game removes trains and replaces them with cars - blue cars - and teddy bears - and VATS

You can play the game without trains?

A bit off topic, but there's no mod so whatever, has anyone tried that train game made by a former wube dev, sweet transit I believe is the name?

i forget hearing that bit about it being a former Wube dev - but the game has been on my wishlist since i heard of it - haven't really been following it though

but transportation sims are sweet - and trains are the sweetest of them all :-)

EDIT: just checked and it's published by Team 17 which think i recall noting previously, because i was a fan back in the days of the original Alien Breed, and they did a pretty sweet 2D fighting game (possibly more than one), and a bunch of other cool games - but was for the Amiga that died - and their PC profile seems to be somewhat smaller since they used to do mainly arcade type games

anyway - game does look pretty sweet - still in Early Access - might check it out in the winter sale (didn't bother with this one since i got burned last year by Subnautica when they increased their discount from 50% to 67% between the 2 sales - literally 3 weeks apart - i am sure they were laughing all the way to the bank at the silly fools like me who couldn't imagine an indie dev pulling such a slimy move)

so anyway - i may check it out - but if you do first, please do report back ;-)

if only it had a demo.......

EDIT2: is in a bundle with a new game called RailGrade that also looks pretty interesting - much pricier though - and no demo....

Bought dredge the other day and they published that as well, at least I'm pretty sure that's in the intro screen. I've been good this year and haven't bought but 2 games and a dlc, so might just make that 3

ah yes - that's on my list :-)

i bought relatively few games this year after finally starting to buy games again just over a year ago after several years of just stopping for various reasons (mainly sales fatigue and massive distrust of publishers and even many developers)

but since i started again the games i have bought have been on average of much higher quality and given me much more playtime than many of the "popular" games that i bought during the sales previously

there are still a few that are more of a novelty or who's shine wears off quickly

but the two big ones this year were Planet Crafter in January, and Evospace in September

and last November was the first time i played Subnautica - and that was a revelation

and the best games i bought since i broke my drought were, in order from September 2022:
Rodina
Starship Evo
The Infected
The Outer Wilds

with an honourable mention for Oxygen Not Included - but after an initial enthusiastic dozen hours, and an intention to come back - it didn't pull me in so much after having found other games that grabbed me harder

i even had at least one Factorio binge in the middle there somewhere

and currently playing Fallout New Vegas off the back of a Fallout 4 relapse (FO4 being a game that shares the 2500+ hours level with Factorio, Skyrim and Space Engineers in my library - with Kerbal Space Program having a solid 5th place at 1000ish hours - and Project Zomboid working hard at 600+, and then games tail off quickly through the 300, 200, 100 marks across the next 10 or so)

anyway - definitely likely to pick up some stuff for me in the Winter Sale

but actually more excited to get Subnautica Below Zero as a gift for the person to whom i gifted the original last year - since they got totally hooked - so will be interested to see how they fare with the sequel

and personally i still have a lot of mileage to get out of my current library - plus Project Zomboid Build 42 is coming soon

i wonder how many more games i will have bought before Space Age lands

probably far fewer than i would have in the days before Factorio got me really thinking about discounts and value, and whether those barely played games were worth it even at a discount

and interestingly - previously i would have said yes - since i could have always gone back and played them

but when i started doing that a while back, that's when i started discovering all the scummy things publishers do when they acquire other company's games - or even do to their own back catalogue - and it has become that maybe a third of my library is games from publishers who's anti consumer actions mean i will likely never install their games again

so i am very much an indie kid these days - i want to play games made by people who love games and who want their customers to love their games - either self published or published by companies who behave like they at least see us as loyal customers, rather than fleshy money sacks

anyway - i hope you enjoyed that impromptu rant - i am trying to limit myself ;-)

EDIT: i forgot - Medieval Engineers got a new lease of life (its first really, since it was abandoned in a pretty broken state by the devs), with the Community Edition, made by modders but with full code access, which fixed the game breaking bugs and allowed me to finally play the vanilla game properly and then enjoy the amazing mod library (definitely one of the best there is due in part to the unusual scenario of the game being abandoned but with enough of an engine and a modding interface that the modders were left with an unchanging platform on which to mod for years, and they did some astounding things) - put 100+ hours onto the game that had previously only managed to give me a dozen or so - and much of that previous time ended with (and consisted of) game breaking bugs - so that was nice :-)
