um what is "screen tear"?
General Frost Mar 28, 2016 @ 8:46pm
Screen tearing is a visual artifact in video display where a display device shows information from multiple frames in a single screen draw. The artifact occurs when the video feed to the device isn't in sync with the display's refresh.

-Google

its usually a problem that vsync fixes but it doesnt seem to. tho i just found some posts about it and it seems it may be a graphics driver that may be causing the issue.

Modern monitors work by firing "beams" of electrons at the rear of the screen which create the lights and colors you see on the screen itself.

However, if a game runs at a different frequency from what your monitor supports then it can fire those electron beams faster than the monitor can place shielding to protect itself.

In which case, over time, the monitor's shielding can start to disintegrate which can eventually be dangerous as the monitor begins to tear and the electron beams escape and fly at your face, which can cause blindness, cancer or autism.

It's quite a serious issue and if this game has it, I would be very upset with the developers.

Ah, I see. Definitely sounds like your graphics driver needs to be updated.

"modern" monitors work with LCD's, not electron beams. I haven't even seen a cathode ray tube in about 10 years.

Wait... are you being serious? I honestly can't tell.

Yea tho is sounds like the problem is with the new drivers. theres a game ready one that im going to try but it looks like it focuses on VRs.

Also, just a quick suggestion, make sure that you aren't clashing between your cards drivers settings and the game settings. I used to get problems if I turned on Vysnc on the control panel for the card and the game itself, maybe it's a toggle thing or something.

Silky smooth 60 fps here; Didnt even fiddle with video settings too much.

I think you have an NVidia card.

The new driver does not work well with factorio, install the old one and hope NVidia fixes it soon :).

Try to force on the V-Sync through Nvidia panel.

Have you tried not running it in Fullscreen? (I don't know if it will work, however it's something you might want to test encase it can be used as a workaround)
