Alt-tabbing in games always gives weird results. Doesn't matter what game it is, really.

I'm told updating your drivers can help with that.

I would not make a general statement like that. I alt-tab out of lots of games. This game gives me no issues, but I do play fullscreen, not windowed as OP does.

I can't update right now because Nvidia is being retarded and their updates cause total system failures.

I have the same efffects when I lay Fallout: New Vegas. Basically ALT+TABing is a death sentence to the game, and I'm lucky if I don't have to do a hard reboot. I don't know why it does it, but I suspect the Illuminati are involved somehow.

I have a multi monitor setup and multitask while playing constantly. I have 160 hours logged of so doing. I have never experienced this issue. I also have 32GB of RAM, perhaps that helps...

this is my modus operandi, alt-tabbing both in windows mod and windowless, never crushed ...

Aye, Factorio by default (for me, at least) is one of the only games that ALT-TABS gracefully by default. On all 3 of my machines (which are all higher end of the ballpark, without doubt)

I've never had a game crash reliably alt tabbing.

It's incredibly sporadic.
I know Skyrim (and other elder scrolls games) were notorious for being incredibly bad to alt-tab but I never had any issues with it.

Factorio on the other hand, will basically insta-crash for me if I try to alt-tab it.

There's just so many different factors that can influence it.

The biggest issue is that the game isn't full scren. ITS WINDOWED

It's borderless windowed, not an issue. There was an entire thread about it a little while ago, I'd suggest you check that out
