Could someone tell me how i enter multi line commands in the console please?
hi - as an example from the wiki (second line has wrapped):

/c local radius=150 game.player.force.chart(game.player.surface, {{x = -radius, y = -radius}, {x = radius, y = radius}})

so that all needs to be executed as one set of commands, since the local no longer exists once the enter key is pressed at the end of that first line (and the second line would also need its own /c to identify it as a command)

i tried the usual suspects such as alt enter and shift enter and ctrl enter to no avail

in the end i simply had to enter the whole command on a single line with a space after the radius value

the wiki is full of multi line examples - but i can't find any instructions on how to actually enter multi line commands - so are they just formatted that way for convenience? do i actually need to enter all console commands as a single line?

any help much appreciated - thanks :-)

you don't need many lines, just have a space, that's enough

yeah - looks to be the case - when you paste it in it adds a space for each newline

thanks for the answer - at least i shall not be searching in vain anymore lol :-)

i shall craft any long commands in notepad if need be

also - i used a value of 7500 for that command i listed, since i am attempting to uncover a planet Earth map mod (Factorio World) - and it is still going after many many minutes, and i can still barely see any of the Americas - plus there appears to be a mysterious land north of the Arctic - so not sure what's going on up there lol

anyway - thanks again for the answer - i shall mark it as such

just realized i could have tried this one:

/c game.player.force.chart_all()

may well have been quicker lol

It is tied to game speed, so you can speed it up by using the command to speed the game.

ah cool - thanks - i shall try that

/c game.player.force.chart_all() does not work - since it just shows currently generated map - whereas the other command force generates it the way the radar does

turns out game speed barely (or possibly even not at all) affects it

i assume because it is generating it as fast as it can

possibly it may have sped up some earlier iterations - but each orbit of the map is now higher than the maximum vertical zoom at 1080p

also i worked out that what i can see above the North Pole is the Southern Tip of a second South America - since i suspect they made the map so that it simply tiles the Earth map on Factorio's "infinite" map space

i shall try Cities of the Earth 3 next - since the author of Factorio World collaborated on it, and it looks to have a bunch of interesting features (as well as specifically saying it does not tile, while allowing for world size selection)

Enable the ups/fps display and see if it increases. If you set game speed to 40 it should show 2400 ups and you should definitely notice the difference.

But you are right, if you are already at maximum you can't increase it without buying a better cpu.

it only increases the max ups, if the computer can't handle it it throttles itself anyway and generating a whole lot of chunks is heavy on the system.

yup - i think i maxxed out my rig

which makes sense - the thing is generating massive amounts of map

i am sure i would have got a big bump at the beginning - but now the outer edges of the map are massive

also - i found the map mod's settings - i can change the scale and disable tiling (it puts ocean around it)

so gonna have a play with that also - before i check the other mod

thanks for all the help :-)

If you know the size of the map you can also limit the map itself to prevent infinite map generation.

yeah - might have given that a go - but looks like the author already had that one in mind - plus looks like they and their friends iterated around the concept a bunch of times with their next mods

and as for the map revealing stuff - looks like my rig manages to keep the UPS above the FPS for quite a while - but not by much (e.g. 60/90 no matter how much higher i set the game speed)

i suspect most players using the command i listed with a value of say 5000, and a high speed would see the first bit go super quick - and then they would get the same slight UPS increase for a while that i am seeing - and then it would eventually settle back to real time

on the other hand i have what i guess is a pretty mid range CPU with a Ryzen 5 3600 - so i guess many players will have the thing zipping along much quicker for longer

either way - is interesting - since i hadn't played much with the console commands - and is cool that you can force it to generate the map out to some arbitrary distance

and being able to stress test the game and one's hardware :-)
