Doom 2016.

For real, these games are nothing like each other. And you don't give a slightest info about what you are looking for.

this game has a demo you can try, which They Are Billions does not

if you make it to level 5 of the demo for this game then you are likely enjoying the mechanics - and the 5th level gives you a little more idea of how big the maps can be (while being tiny compared to what is possible) and the kinds of factories you can build - as well as the tower defence aspects

i don't know They Are Billions - but from the store page it seems to be maybe a large scale tower defence game? - whereas this game is a resource management/processing and automation game, with tower defence aspects as mentioned - the aliens are provoked by the pollution produced by the player's factory, and it spurs them to attack in increasingly large numbers as well as accelerating their evolution

but since the automation and factory building is the focus of this game, it allows the aliens (usually called biters, but there are also spitters) to be disabled - allowing a player to play entirely for the resource management and factory building aspects

anyway - the demo is free and a good introduction to the mechanics - and like i say, the last level is a decent intro to the scale - plus it allows you to build trains, which are very well realized in this game, likely being inspired by the signalling available in OpenTTD (and TTD with the unofficial TTDpatch before that)

I never even understand what's the purpose of asking those questions in the first place. We don't know you, we have no idea what you enjoy and do not enjoy. We are not you. You know much better than anybody else which game you will like more...

So, how about going on the internet, watching some youtube videos and maybe reading some reviews? You know, the normal things people do when they want to make a decision like this?

That's quite a big difference. They're not remotely alike, Factorio is a logistics game in which even the enemies are meant to be a logistics challenge. They Are Billions is a horde survival "tower defense" (ish) game.

I would just recommend you try the DEMO of Factorio and see if you like it. If you don't like it then you should obviously go for They Are Billions. If you do like the demo of Factorio it becomes a bit harder to decide, but at least you'll have more information on whether Factorio can be right for you.

Factorio, obviously.

What else did you expect in the Factorio forums?
stacKa Jun 5, 2023 @ 2:49pm
lol ye Idk I feel like both game are survival and tower defense with kinda same graphics

i don't think it's unreasonable to ask with the hope that there may be one or more fans of both games who responds

or at least people who can describe the different qualities of both

and if there are none then it is more likely that there is less commonality between the two

plus people can be fans of multiple games - they can even be active in forums for games that are not their favourite

admittedly Factorio is pretty much best in class with no alternative - with my understanding being that Dyson Sphere is a long way from being a competitor, if it can even get there with the more intense engine that will likely not be able to handle the same scale as Factorio without insane hardware - or all of the features that Factorio has - and i am told Satisfactory is entirely different

but still - if the question was "Factorio or DSP" or "Factorio or Satisfactory" there would at least be some discussion of the relative strengths of the games (as well as the price trolls jumping in with their pointless screeds)

but from what i can tell there is very little overlap for They Are Billions - being simply a tower defence game

hence less constructive discourse - rather than just because this is the Factorio forums

and as it goes i would not recommend Factorio to this person if they just like tower defence - even though it is a good tower defence game - but there are likely games that better cater to that particular gameplay desire - although i imagine through settings and with mods Factorio can probably be turned into the best tower defence game ever

so scrub that - yes - Factorio for everything - a guy even built Doom in it :-)

have you played either of them?

Factorio has a demo

you might want to play it

Factorio is mostly about mining resources and setting up automated production chains to fuel research

the tower defence is optional

i assume the other game is focused around the tower defence aspect

in Factorio you can spend a whole game just trying to build the best train network

from what i can tell the games are not alternatives to eachother

but like i say, i have never played They Are Billions

ok - i will watch the trailers on the store page, and maybe some YouTube - then get back to you

but i expect that Factorio will have many features, mechanisms and gameplay options that are not present in the other game

and i expect the other game to have lots more options for killing the enemies - and some kind of points scoring or XP system based on killing lots of enemies or surviving for periods of time etc

different kinds of games

but i will go look to be sure :-)

ok - well i watched the 2 trailers on the store page and it looks very tower defence-y

with some RTS and adventure-y aspects

with the massive enemy hordes being the big hook

personally when i saw the hordes i had some Project Zomboid flashbacks - and i would certainly prefer PZ over They Are Billions - but that is just because straight tower defence is not really my jam (and because PZ is awesome)

anyway - i shall check out some YouTube to confirm the gameplay - but it does seem like Factorio and They Are Billions are extraordinarily far apart - with possibly the only similarity being the end game of Factorio when the world is infested with millions of biters - and the player's factory is walled off and defending against constant attacks

unless the player has set up artillery all round and has scorched the earth for miles around

or nuked the place

ok - well i am halfway through this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMb0P9fU5P0

i have watched the bit where they described and showed the gameplay and stopped before they have given their pros and cons review bit

and They Are Billions looks like it has pretty much nothing in common with Factorio

it looks like tower defence with kind of a steampunk Age of Empires flavour

but pretty much just straight up tower defence

basically yorg.io with flashy graphics (i think i picked yorg up for a buck after i bought shapez.io - and i can't see how TAB has much to offer beyond yorg)

so yeah - if you want to see what Factorio is about then try this video by Joseph Anderson from 7 years ago, when Factorio landed on Steam Early Access, and had none of its HD graphics upgrades - but still had its core gameplay loop in place:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtT_Qc5DIEg

then watch the latest trailers to see the new shiny graphics

but the core game is still the same

massive automated productions chains - and awesome train networks

with hordes of aliens to defend against if you produce lots of pollution and choose to have them activated to react to it - plus you can make them be more prolific and evolve faster if you choose

but like i said - the tower defence is optional in Factorio - but can be customized to a massive extent - you can have endless hordes if you choose

anyway - i think that about covers it

The Admiral wasn't too far off when suggesting this was like comparing Factorio and Doom 2016 lol - They Are Billions is nothing like Factorio

best of luck in finding a game to enjoy :-)

lol ty but still with what you said I think they have a lot in common, factorio is a lot of management and little tower defense and they are billions is little management and lot of tower defense

lol - well Factorio has a demo so you can have a play and see how it goes

no demo for They Are Billions though

so worth looking at videos for that one i guess

i would say that Factorio's big thing is automation and trains - as well as insane moddability and an incredible library of mods - which can do things like add RTS vehicles and troops - or more enemies - or entire overhauls to the production chains, and a thousand other changes

plus it can likely be turned into a massive tower defence game if you want - beyond what is already there in vanilla

whereas i doubt They Are Billions can have any of Factorio's mechanics added to it - looks like the mod scene is mostly maps

anyway - demo is there for Factorio - and videos for They Are Billions

i certainly won't be buying They Are Billions - but for example i still have Satisfactory on my wishlist for when it becomes cheaper - since it seems closer to a kind of gameplay i enjoy, while being very little like Factorio beyond being about automating a factory

personally there is enough tower defence in Factorio for me - and like i say it can be customised and modded - but if tower defence is your jam, then it is possible there are better alternatives

anyway - bout as much help as i can be

again, good luck in your quest to find the right game to buy first :-)
(and at least this one allows you to try the demo for as long as you like for free)

Don't forget also, that They are Billions always plays the same.
Factorio, you can, should you wish, play with NO biters, Hard or easy terrain, assorted costs for construction. Basically a heck of a lot of variety, even before you start adding in mods.

Big difference:
Controls and gameplay

TAB is a RTS similar to Age of Empires.
You can pause, issue orders, and jump to any spot instantly.
Quite some of TAB's difficulty comes from time limit until the next wave and especially final wave.
TAB has a campaign with single missions and the techtree is unlocked both on campaign level & during each mission by research.

Factorio is a Top Down Shoter where your character must actually be where you want to do something.
You must design production lines which can be its own logic puzzle game with belts, inserters, and pipes.
Enemies agression is a result of your factory and therefore dynamic - you can limit it by controlling your pollution or clearing nests near your base.
Factorio is built around 'freeplay' where you develop a factory and its technology on a random endless map.

You came to the Factorio Discussions board so I'm going to say Factorio by default. I don't know why anyone else would type any different; the previous statement is rhetorical. Good Day.
