so for level 3 and 4 there are a few bases you will need to defend against or destroy - and in the last level (5) there are nests everywhere - but you can find means to defend against and destroy them
but as has been said - in the full game you can customise pretty much everything, including the biters - so you can turn off pollution which means they will only attack if you get close - or you can make them peaceful - or you can disable them entirely - and lots of options in between (e.g. not allowing them to expand or evolve etc)
so yes - what you want totally possible in the full game as part of the standard options - good luck :-)
Which reminds me; Still waiting on the thread covering your experience at rediscovery of the demo.
had a few times where i got myself killed on the last few nests and had to restart due to my insane masochistic ruleset :-)
i also have a save where i deconstructed all of the bases
will probably post a thread about the map soon - maybe over the weekend - also got the Story Missions mod to play some more of before i post a "review" - is looking good so far - have only played the first level - but has some nicely built bases and exploration rewards and the beginnings of some nice storytelling
so yeah - those things will hopefully get done soon
but.......i kind of got distracted from Factorio by picking up Skyrim again to add a few hundred more hours to my thousands already played lol
but i am sure i shall be back to Factorio soon with some reports :-)
there's ways to make them very efficient with circuit conditions - Idk how to show screenshot but i've been doing this for years and it's very reliable
That said, I am going to use the Steam option to test the actual game for a couple hours before passing final judgement. These types of games, especially those that give little option for reduced cost, send a message that they do not care regardless. In that context at least a demo has been available. I know, different topics but I figured I would stick to a single thread at this point.
I don't expect anything really but the community has been helpful so that does add value for sure. Lets see how it goes.
Just to be clear here, The Demo only lets you play the tutorial scenario iirc- It doesn't let you make a Freeplay save which is where you can peaceful/disable/whatever biters as you please.

This is the freeplay enemy settings menu, All you need to do to make biters non-hostile unless attacked is mark this Peaceful Mode box I have hovered over to show the help text, Or if you just want no biters at all whatsoever, uncheck the box just above it titled 'Enemy Bases' and there won't be any bugs or bug bases at all.
Edit: and to be more clear, 'Freeplay' is the intended default main game mode; After playing the tutorial scenario, your next step is freeplay.
I guess you did not see that there was more than one concern or maybe I did not make myself clear.
Yes, biters are an issue.
The cost of the game is quite high and as I have read there is no intention to offer a sale or discount. That is fine I guess since Steam offers a 2 hour playtime before refunding if need be. That simply increases my expectations for quality and at the price point listed I do expect quality and options.
Another issue at this point seems the clarity of graphics within the game and that might be on my end although this would be the only game out of 500+ I own that has this issue.
Additionally, the scrolling and lack of rotation seem to be detrimental as well. Again, might be an issue on this side.
My point is that there are some issues in addition to what my question raised. I should likely have created separate posts but tried to keep it in one location.
Oh, and to add, after reviewing your screenshot I notice that if certain criteria are not met then achievements cannot be completed. That said, the game cannot be played fully in a "peaceful" mode. All good. Like I said, its a game and my expectations / wants are likely different.
No biters I could do. No cliffs could be nice. No water would be tough, but interesting I think. No trees, obviously it's possible, since you start with the wood, but I'm not the one to do it, not yet anyway.
