How to get water out of tanks to make concrete
Have water being stored in storage tanks but have no idea how I get the water out of the tank in order to make concrete. An empty barrel does not hold water from the tank. Any ideas?

electric pumps.

I have a pump going from the lake, pumping my water to the tanks. I don't know how to get the water out of the tanks though.

an empty barrel needs to be combined with the water in an assembler using the fill water barrel recipe

pumps aren't required for that

they are mainly for pumping fluids between tanks or trains etc - or for long pipe networks

Assembling machine 2 and assembling machine 3 will display a fluid intake when given a recipe that requires a fluid. You can connect it to a water source using a pipe system. (e.g. by connecting to your tank)

Assembling machine 1 can't make concrete.

when you select the fill water barrel recipe you will get a water input on the assembler (has to be a blue assembler or better) - then you rotate that to the tank pipe and it will fill

That's an offshore pump that doesn't require electricity. To move water from the tanks to other pipes/entities you need to use electric pumps, connected to the tank.

To be clear here, You can't "Hold" water in your inventory to craft things by hand. You can only pump it to processing facilities. To barrel it, that means to an assembler.

To make concrete, you pump water into an assembler set to the concrete recipe.

For water in particular, there's rarely a need to stuff it in tanks or barrel it around- Just plop the offshore water pump in the nearest water and pipe it over, the pump itself makes way more water than you need in most cases, and it makes it infinitely, so storing it in a tank is rather pointless.

you only "need" the pump if you are trying to empty a tank - assemblers or other liquid consuming buildings will suck liquid from the system without a pump - but it can help for bigger or complex pipe and tank networks

but for thee OP's basic needs - i think it's the basic fill barrel recipe that they need - as well as knowing about the liquid input on assemblers

OK thanks everyone I got it now, had no idea the assembler machine would have the water input on it.

Much appreciated - I've only unlocked the items under red and green research so far and overwhelmed with how many things there are to produced :)
Now you need an inserter to put in empty barrels and then another inserter to remove full barrels.

lol - yeah - green has an insane amount of stuff in it :-)

good luck :-)

I pump water using off shore pumps into tanks. The tanks use electric pumps to fill fluid wagons on a train.

The train then travels to my main assembly area where electric pumps unload the water from the train to storage tanks at the train station. The electric pump at the south end remove water from the tanks and sends it through the pipes to the assembly area.

Where it is combined with the other required ingredients by assembly machines into concrete.

There are lots of different ways that you can set it up. This is one of the ways I use.

Isn't the answer to this question simply: pipes? Why does it look like it's a really complex subject? Pumps aren't even needed and yet everyone talks about them like they're a must.

can u pipe the water from the tank to the assembler?
