They raised the price of the Game?
Thought I was tripping when I looked at it today, but no, they actually raised the price from €29.99 to €32, lol. Checked it on SteamDB's price history (says €30, but pretty sure it used to be €29.99). Why though?

its always been a round number, thats one of their sticking points. theres a sticky about the game discount, the round number thing is probably there too. as for the increase, it was bumped a few months back, around the first of the year, due to inflation. its been discussed to death, its never civil.

Hmm, I see. I obviously missed the memo because I check the game every now and then to see if I finally feel like buying it.

It's due to the expenses for maintaining sock-puppets on these forums that need to go an explain same thing over and over again for people who cannot be bothered to use the search function.

Thank you for the needless ad hominem. You truly add value.

It was sarcasm, not ad hominem. Ad hominem would be dismissing your point or argument by attacking you personally - e.g. "you are wrong because you are stupid". Since you didn't make an argument, there cannot be an ad hominem. Fun fact - that means someone can call you stupid and it would be presenting their opinion, while they can still engage with any argumentation you present honestly, and then you calling them out on ad hominem would be the fallacy fallacy.

See? The more you know :)

You're wrong, it always used to be 30. The devs clearly stated that they don't like those .99 prices, so they always sticked to round numbers.

And like others already mentioned, it was due to inflation. In Wube's country, the Czech Republic, the inflation rate were in the double digits since the february 2022 (and seemingly still is), aka since the start of the ukranian war, that's why they increased the price to at least partially compensate for the unusually high inflation.

But let's hope that due to the expansion release that should happen somewhat soon (like hopefully during the next 1-2 years) they don't feel like they have to increase it again any time soon (even when the inflation keeps looking horrible).

Why does it matter to you?
You didn't bought the game then, you won't buy it in the future.

Apparently Factorio never, ever goes on Sale and will only keep increasing in price.
The Escapist even made a video about it. So if you don't own it yet, the best time to buy is now because it won't be less than it is now

it's due to "inflation". Other companies put their games regularly on sale yet factorio decides to increase price. go figure.

Factorio doesn't run sales because its always on sale. Its quite a bit less expensive than other similar indie games.

Other companies price their games knowing it will go on sale and a significant group of their customer base will wait for a sale to purchase. The sale isn't a favor to you, it's the actual price the company expects people to pay, the higher "normal" price is just a tax on people with too little patience or too much money.

I’m in the boat of someone who criticized their reasoning for increasing the price of the product. Some people on here didn’t like it. But I believe it’s worth the current price because you get an insane amount of content out of it. Wont ever agree with a company increasing the price of a digital product but i will admit this could be 40 bucks and it would still be worth it.

than other indie games? Not really, it's pretty much the most expensive.

Similar indie games? also not really. Satisfactory > $30, goes on sale. Dysen sphere > $20, goes on sale.

This game was already the most expensive by never going on sale, then they raised the price.

against AAA games? Yes, it's still half the price, being $35 vs $60-$70. But lets not pretend it's the cheaper among indies, it's not.
