Because a) this is at the moment a rather underdeveloped feature and basically just a resource drain and b) because the one image that we got as a teaser for the expansion seems to display an alien.
Additionally, some new method of logistical transport. Quite possibly something akin to the transport drone mod, which fits between bots and trains. Or, if we're going to space, spaceships that can make automated deliveries.
Maybe we will see aliens who can dig under the defensive walls if not delt with by your base defences.. Or maybe a flying bug that need to be delt with via AA guns
But elsi think there will be a space layer where we can produce unique late game items, who know maybe even space lasers that can defend zones on the map, or a super weapon that can take outan entire alien base ( just like nuclear artillery ).
Maybe even long range jet or heli attack drones you can send to take out enemy base or make them patrole your walls.
Or what about upgraded walls with an electric fence on the top as a kind of defence against flying aliens.
Els random events that can be good or bad. Example alien super base show up on the map.
Or hive queen detected, take it out to avoid large invation in 2 houres from now.
Or big deep resource vain, build a deep mining rig to reach it.
Build a super project that give you example a space elevator so you dont have to use rockets to move resources up and down from space.
Well that is a few ideas.
As an aside, while I think its great that the vanilla game is so customizable, I'm quite certain that having enemies enabled is the "intended" way to play, and it seems pretty reasonable that the expansion will reflect that--though I also expect that playing with enemies on will continue to be optional.
as for the content from the only pic i have seen (and that was quite a while ago) looked like either something aquatic or space faring, If I had to guess we will be getting factorio ocean floor, then final frontier, then warmachines
Being slightly more reasonable, I suspect we will see more features, such as new biomes, new resources, new buildings, aliens, new production lines, more technologies, and more baseline features being added, via expansion, that could not be modded.
I do remember Wube saying that they wanted to do an expansion without adding features that could be modded, which is why I am surprised how some people in this thread are not thinking outside of the box.
