How to make train tracks curved?

When aiming at an existing piece of track and holding a piece of track in hand, click the little arrow on the one in world to enable drag build.

Click the track once to get it to go in the direction you want it to go, and then hold down Shift key while moving the cursor on the map. The game will try to direct a ghost image of the track to where your cursor is. If it's in the layout or section that you want, then click and it will lay down that path. If it's not, then move the cursor around again to get it where you want .

Note that sometimes to make a curved track meet up with another existing track (such as in the mission where you are repairing track lengths), you might have to start the curved part from 1 or 2 segments earlier, so in that case, just delete that 1 or 2 segments and repeat the steps.
