Why can't I generate electricity?
I placed 1 water pump, 14 boilers, and 10 steam engines in a line. I am feeding the boilers with coal from my mining area. For some reason, the steam engines will not generate electricity and all have a yellow triangle above them. Any idea how to make this powerplant work? Thank you.

did you attatch a power line to them?

Yes I did, and I connected it to an electric drill.

Do you have a screenshot of your setup?

the yellow triangle means it isn't connected to the power grid... did you make sure the blue area around the power line overlaps the steam engine?

Usual checklist (I will go over some you have already checked just to be thorough):
  • Make sure you've a pylon near the boiler connected to something that would like to consume power. (Namely using it not idling)
  • Make sure your water is connected:
Waterpump ═ Boilers ═ Steam Engines
    and not:
    Waterpump ╦ Boiler ╦ Steam Engines ╚════════╝
(Looping cold water from the feed into the hot water after the boilers will reduce the temperature and cause the Steam engines to run at a reduced rate or not at all)
  • Make sure any pipework is arranged correctly so the elbows (pipe bends on the unground pipe) are pointing the right direction in relationship to each other. (Connecting outwards along the same axis)
    e.g. <E-W>/<W-E> or <N-S>/<S-N>, not <E-N> etc

Are ALL the engines hooked into the powergrid? or just one?

Thank you all, and thank you @Stryder very much for putting the time into creating this checklist! Turns out the problem was that one of my power poles was too far from the one next to it to connect.
