Pollution removal? @ Devs
Is there any plans to create things that remove pollution from the environment?

No, but there have been many good ideas in the official forums - like this one[forums.factorio.com]

So now just waiting for an algea farm haha

Wait don't trees and alien nests already absorb pollution on-top of it's natural diffusion over time/space?

Plus you can reduce your pollution to effectively zero with solar panels and green modules, or at least to the point where it doesn't expand beyond your perimiter so you never get attacked.

They do, but you can't plant/grow them without mods.

maybe if they added growing trees then we could ??

well that may come at a later date if you think about it but as for polution you could use solar panels like he stated though they do you know good at night but I am sure there is a form of energy storage unti for that. I havent gotten to using solar panels yet. I am still working on trains and getting to where i can have all 4 types of science going into my lab at the same time. my setups are tacky too since im not used to everything yet xD I may need help with that though :U

There is a mod for that: [MOD 0.12.X] Air Filtering[forums.factorio.com]

Trees do suck up some pollution...and if you shut down all pollution producing buildings it should vanish. After a long time XD

i want to tame the aliens and turn them into working slaves. fully automated working slaves. damn i played too much ark
you need to research clean coal

The environment itself removes pollution at a slow rate. If you can lower your rate of pollution enough, your pollution foot print will shrink over time.

Don't cut trees, don't replace dirt/grass with the concrete/pavement, use efficiency modules to lower the power usage and pollution from X unit

Less power needed = less power created = less pollution = less space used = less cut trees

Obviously if you have a big factory, I don't talk here about 10 assembly machines but like 300 and more running 24/7 together with the furnaces. For sure your pollution will raise.

btw there is a Air Filtering mod, which is kinda balanced. You use more power and you need to craft and replace filters over some time.

But the hell , thats the point of Factorio, managing pollution levels. If you manage well there are no problems with it.

^^ Indeed.

Personally, I think the game is very well balanced in the pollution regard. The solution is in-game -- green efficiency modules.

If you want more speed/productivity, of course it comes at a cost!

well, its not perfectly balanced since you can do nothing to go back in pollution. its one thing if you drill into the soil or produce many poisonous chemicals, maybe even nucler power, but "just" burning some coal should definitely polute your place, but not forever... some kind of high tech possibility to reduce done pollution with great effort, even to the point of practically rebuilding your factory sounds legit, just ANY way to reduce it and not just slow down increase ...

Pollution decreases over time, there are three things in the game that decrease it:
  • Spawners - they can absorb a lot of pollution but will send out enemy units while doing so, the more pollution the bigger / larger in numbers the enemy units will be
  • Trees - Dense forests absorb a lot of pollution
  • Chunks - the ground does absorb pollution at a specific rate, deserts not so much, green land and especially water absorb more
Mods can also add machines that remove pollution, example:
[MOD 0.12.X] Air Filtering[forums.factorio.com]
