How do i change my name?

i started on multiplayer and i joined my freinds server and we both had the same name (was a lan server) i think maybe when i first whent into multiplayer it said

what is your name? but i thought it was asking who i wanted to join so i put my freinds name in please tell me how to change it thx :D
