How to play multiplayer between a Windows and Mac computer?

I'm unable to join my friend's game and he's unable to join mine, and I've tried mostly everything, including opening all ports and setting up a batch file, etc. However, we still can't join each other. So the only thing left to try is 3rd party multiplayer setups. Evolve and Hamachi are the ones I'm seeing, and Ive installed them and theyre ready to go. But do Evolve and Hamachi work for mac?

First, make sure you're on the same version, one of you may be on experimental release.
Then, steam connect should work, if not, use a server (you can rent one on google or amazon cloud for a few cents per month, if you remember to shut it down when you're not playing.)

evolve is not available for download on mac, evolve 2.0 Is tho.

evolve is not available for download on mac, evolve 2.0 Is tho.

I tried it with my friend who has a mac. I dont like it but it might work for you. It is somewhat similar but less full of feautures
