"A New Hope" Campaign, Level 3: Any tips?
I've played through the first few levels of the campaign, and now I'm stuck on the third one of A New Hope, where you start with a car loaded with resources and are tasked with destroying a biter nest and then going after the crashed ship to the southeast.

I managed to destroy the nest near the start by repeatedly walling off a 4*4 area, building turrets in it, and loading them up with ammo, then removing a previous area.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work for the second objective. I managed to get into the neighbourhood of the highlighted base to the southeast, but by that point I was nearly out of ammo, and ran out before the turrets could shoot everything.

The level suggests building a specialised factory to work on what you brought, but without any resources present, I can't really see much potential for doing much of anything given how limited the starting resources you bring with you are.

I tried looking in the Community Guides section, but nobody seems to have written a guide for the campaign levels yet.

So, any tips for getting me through this mission?

That was the mission when I decided I wasn't cut out for driving a car, and instead went for Free Play mode ;-)

This mission is impossible to do the way is supposed to be done. You have to destroy like you did the first nestin the east, then pull the biters with your car, run to bait them away from their base. When you're far enough with 9999999999999999999999999 aliens running after you, you dodge them (still with your car of course) go straight to the objective, take it, run a little more while the game trigger the win.
You have some good videos for this on YouTube, you should check it ! ^^ Good luck.

You should be able to turret creep the entire mission. I'm playing it on normal and that's what I did. I managed to do it with plenty of ammo to spare.

build a wall and put the turrets behind the wall (using water as part of the barrier can help). use the piercing rounds from the car trunk to arm the turrets. this should give you breathing room to build a factory.

build a setup that pumps out the defender robots as quickly and as many as possible, using the resources from the car trunk. once you have as many as you can create (i ran out of iron first) take any remaining piercing rounds from the turrets and rush the alien base!

Great plan, with only a few minor flaws:
1) There are no resources anywhere on the map (well, there is wood and stone so you could build a wall I guess)
2) You don't have access to robots - the only available research is flamethrower (useless given the afore mentioned lack of oil).

It's really quite simple: You have 2k iron plates, 2k copper plates, 1k steel, 1.1k coal (and some solar panels to power your assemblers) which you can spend on making more turrets, grenades and/or more ammo. The goal is to win before you run out of resources.
Fantasizing about how you could curb stomp the enemies with end game robot rushes is not going to help you achieve this goal.
For those still sruggling with this mission (it still sucks):

1) After destroying first biter nest (you have to do this) go South and find a patch of rock. Don't worry if the car is destroyed.
2) Mine 5 rock to build a smelter to make steel.
3) plant 2 turrets and load with all your supply of ammo
4) build rocket launcher and queue up as many rockets as possible.
5) set up production to make flying robots. You should be able to make 8-10 with supplies available.
6) when you have at least 12 rockets, go South to smaller biter base. Use your 15 robots and destroy the base. In the base you will find 25 new robots and a supply of rockets.
7) go back to your base and collect as many robots as possible.
8) go South via destroyed biter base then East and run straight to the objective. Don't try to destroy the biter base, just get the computer. Your robots should hold off the biters. Use a few rockets to take out the turret-worms.

Whoa, the necro is strong in this thread.

Yeah, I eventually solved the mission by being less-cautious with my turret-creeping. No walls, and spreading them out a bit more. Probably should have posted that here at the time.

Just to add salt to the necro here...
This mission was easy, though had me make few tries when I got stuck in tree and bitters surrounded me.

Just kill the small nest in the east, then in the southwest and hit&run. There's enough ammo in the car. Didn't build a single turret/building. If the car gets damaged too much (by worms mostly), escape, pick following bitters from far away, repair the car and repeat. Reloads aside, clean mission clear time 15 minutes.

On another note, maybe some later update nerfed this mission that it's doable now with just the car.

It's fine. People are still struggling with this mission. As long as you have something new to add.

You can actually rush the goal, ignoring the biters and finishing in 1 minute. Doing it as intended, ie converting your explosives to rockets with a small specialized factory is also very possible.

I just gave up on this mission after dying 20 times.
I expected an introduction, instead they threw me into a pot of boiling water and handed my a paddle.

The mission is not very well designed.

- If you try to do it "right", it is too hard for most new players.

- If you are very aggressive and use the "turret creep" approach, you wipe them out too soon and don't get a chance to play with oil and learn how to use it right.

There is good news and bad news.

Good: In 0.17 the 0.16 missions are gone and replaced by new missions.

Bad: The 0.17 missions are far too hard for new players and boring for experienced ones. You can't even use the normal research tree and among other annoying things you are blocked from underground belts and splitters.

I am a new player.
I played the 17 intro.
It is good. easy, no hot water I founded.
I was only confused by those arrows on conveyor belts heading to building. But they are removed on last week.
Also misson gradualy introduces principles, so missing underground belts is ok.
For hardcore players, they can get underground belts even in this misson.

there is a thing i dont like - I builded up smelter before the robot mmade his own presentation of smelter line.
Howver in the process of creation of his line, he destroyed my parts.
It would be nice if the demo robot need space then, disassemble my buildings and put them back to my inventory. Do not crush my stuff please.
