Is there a way to pause the game (or a mod that would allow it)?
This game seems very stressful and hectic to me without the ability to pause and take a look at your manufacturing / make adjustments. Is there any way this is or will be possible?

Full disclosure: I do NOT own this game yet.

Yeah you just press the escape button
There's also a dedicated pause button but I have no clue what it is, go look for it in controls

You would have known if it had a pause feature if you played the demo.

That's the fire button if memory serves me correct.

I stand corrected; Shift-Spacebar.

It's an odd choice for the pause keybind, I admit.

I thought the pause function was an odd combo of keys..
Shift space is pretty odd, I only knew there was a dedicated pause function because I accidentally hit it once

If i just want to go AFK for a moment and don't want bad things to happen during that time, i usually just open research menu via T (and i have the option checked to pause game then).
But you cannot have a look around this way...

Problem is, neither Esc or Shift+Space allow one to access their inventory or other menus. Nor can one look around or do any form of planning other than in their head.

you can always open whatever menu you want and pause the game while it's open if that's what you want to do.

Yes, this has been one of the very few complaints I have with the design of this game at the moment. It would be nice to check out your factory from time to time, with it paused. and not be limited to the area that you can see at that particular moment.

Yeah I can see how that might be an issue in very intense situations in non-peaceful
Although I've never even thought about that in peaceful mode

If you want, you can set the gamespeed to .01 or something which will let you open machine GUIs and such (although you can't really move around). You can also just cut off your power generation if you want to do some longer retooling, the biters should stop coming as soon as the pollution disappates.

Commands disable achievements

I'm pretty sure polution tends to linger after a while and wouldn't be absorbed THAT fast
You also run risk of getting killed by biters due to no more production of ammo and defense

Yeah, I was hoping for something like what Silvador said. Like in Company of Heroes, you can pause but issue commands. I tried the demo and I would get stressed and flustered trying to edit and modify my assembly lines while they were in the process of running. I just want to be able to build things while it's paused.

That sounds like you want to play a different game - in Factorio, you usually play a guy walking around to place objects, so there is nothing to be gained by pausing since you can't neither see production nor do anything without physically walking over there. If you did allow players to remotely interact with objects while the game is paused then no one would ever move so you might just as well play in sandbox mode.

I don't think it's fair for you to say that at all. I like this game's fundamentals but I would like it a lot more if I were able to PAUSE production and issue commands. It's not unreasonable. It's just something the developer didn't implement.
