Need a blueprint for an outpost setup.
I'm wanting a design for an indipendent outpost that I can set and forget until I expand factories further in that direction. I'm wanted to get a radar in as well. I've tried to make such a design myself, but have not found the correct setup, and there are other people better at this sort of thing. I anyone has built something like this, a screencap would be appreciated.

Basically, what I do is this:

- Surround entire ore field + train station with 2-tile thick walls.
- Place laser turrets at short intervals. (A few tiles between each, depending on how thick your biters are.)
- Set up a roboport which has the green area covering ALL walls. (Use 2 if the outpost is very large)
- Put about 50 construction robots in the 'port.
- Set up automatic delivery of repair kits to the logistics area via a special train. (You can also deliver a small supply of walls and turrets if things are getting destroyed regularly.)
- Make sure the power that connects the laser turrets has multiple redundant lines in case biters destroy a power pole.

Every now and again, you will want to clear out biter bases, otherwise you will need a solid line of turrets two layers thick to defend.

I can build a defensive line around resources no problem. What I was wanting was something to distract the biters and keep more from setteling in cleared areas. My plan is to clear a section, place a few of these outposts at the edge to keep them out, then build my resource harvesting stuff. The reason I'm doing it like that is I have an iron and steel shortage and I need more trains coming in with iron ore. I was wanting these outposts to be mostly if not completley independed, which is where I ran into issues.

Ahh, I see. The problem is that biters keep resettling, and eventually will form a wide wall of red at the edge of the laser range.

I address the problem by manually clearing out biter bases in a wide perimeter around my claimed areas, but this is time consuming. I'm hoping the devs will address this problem with a future tech of some sort.

I believe the range of artillery turrets is shorter than that of lasers, so it doesn't solve the problem.

Also, they have to be continually supplied with ammo, making the logistics of the situation more complicated.

How does one get an artillery turret? I've not seen one of those, but I read about the old win condition a little.

What kind of logic is that? An artillery turret is supposed to have a very long range but very slow fire rate. If it's not then it's a mortar or a standard cannon.

I thought you were referring to the standard turret (pre-laser), using AP bullets... which is already in-game and has a shorter range.

Nice. Does it use 100% of the power it creates, or is there surplus to dump into the grid (Obviously I mean ofter the accumulators are charged)?

There is a surplus after the drone port and accumulators, so you can use big electric poles to connect it to your grid for some bonus power too

Where you surround the entire area you want to eventually use, so that your pollution isn't outside your walls, I have a massive post about it in the showcase and exhibition part of the discussions if you want to see how I do it. Good Luck
