Finding oil fields.
I've advanced to the point of making oil fields and I'm a bit lost as I can't seem to easily find them. I found three when randomly clearing a forest but unlike coal, copper, stone, and iron; oil doesn't seem to show up on the minimap. :(

Anyone have any tip or trick? (Inb4 "Roam the desert." ;P)

Oil is bright pink on the map. The main map will show it even if forests are covering it.

Also, the patches are small -- like little squares. (Different from the huge swathes of iron and copper).

Oh so THAT'S what the pink dots are! I feel kind of stupid now. :|

Here I thought I had figured all the colours out and assumed the pink dots where corruption of some sort. >_<

I always set oil to max upon map creation. I don't want to be required to set up far remote colonies just to barrel in oil, until much further in the game.

The games guide http://guide.factorio.com would have provided that information, too.

It is alway worth a look for new players.

I always set oil to max everything, it runs out way to fast compared to ore fields and considering there is consideraly less area covered.
