This goes basically for all games, besides turnbased ones like civ.
@deniel0674 I opend the save file removed it and startet it and hell yes it was half the size.... but
after the next autosave it is up to the orginal size... ... but a good tip for starter!
My phone on Wifi dl's something like that (guessing from YouTube use) in like 2 seconds, and on my PC something that size is downloaded the instant I click to DL it.
You mentioned desync (hate that term, it's nonsense), etc... are you sure your issues aren't with those things and not the map size?
So he can very well load like 30MB worth of actual mapsize in one sitting but just end up seeing and interacting with like 10% of it. And that's a waste for literally everyone.
Thats what i was asking for, working on the mapsize today we reached the 180 train 40 stations and 150 mining outposts..
120mb-Mapsize.
and we stoped playing this map its stupidly TOO large!!!
The devs are working on these issues at preset. (You can read more about this in the FFFs).
Also, 50 MB is a pretty large map in Factorio. For comparison, my 70 hour map is only 20 MB.
If you think my answer was silly, ok. Your topic is about filesizes. Transfering files this small, as jamesc70 stated, is not a big deal, thus i thought you are dealing with a server on your homenetwork serving couple of folks, especially because you are braging about your bandwith. (which btw is by far not the "2nd fastest connection" in germany - not even on consumerlevel - especially regarding the upload-bandwith, THAT would be silly)
----------
and yeah 50 mb is not much thats true if you have to download it once okay twice is okay to maybe 3 times... but you start to hate it if you have 5-6 players waiting , waiting, waiting , waiting
we reached 162 mb mapsize today and stoped playing the game... i hope 0.13 will solve some errors. if any of you have some trick to reduce mapsize please help.
.-.. but dont talk about offtopic thanks.-.. *smile@banana*
Any server that runs a map runs 2 processes
1 the game world
2 a seperate clone where people connect to first
Anyone who connects to your server connects to 2 to download the world then after that is done connects to 1 and any changes get synced up
Combine this with the ability to only load certain area's instead of the entire map every time and a lot of issues that a lot of us have on maps that are big will go away
I was playing with a group of 16 at one point with a few mods 200+mb big map 4 weeks of content when we reached the point where there was to much data being send between everyone to keep it all synced up and thus desync after desync
Now an other thing they could do is that you take the idea above but make it so that data is only send to you from your surrounding and a small area around you and everything else is just static(for clients only of course) and new data is only send of an area if a person comes near it and any changes have happaned in between now and the last visit
That way a server would 1 take up less bandwith overall 2 increase stability 3 allow people with worse connections to play on big maps without desyncs 4 if someone desyncs only they will be effected as upon reconnect they connect to process 2 and then sync local area only upon entering resulting in like a 1-2 second pause on reentry instead of 5 minutes
Also i have posted a suggestion like this before on the factorio forums incase someone feels this sounds a bit familiar
In his first answer, he is telling you to put your server on a datacenter (or equivalent) so that it is not your upload speed that matters but the one from that datacenter. That way, you could download at full speed meaning with a 200 Mbits it would take less than 10 seconds to download those 162 MB. His answer was nowhere near "silly" and one of the best you had in this thread, along with the "remove replay.dat".
Oh, and 400Mbits here, you should only brag when you can ;)
MAPGRÖßE !!
hat jemand einige vorschläge dazu vielleicht!?
@deniel0674 thanks again mate it always help a lot at the beginning of the day.
@⎛⎝๖ۣۜÐÆ ๖ۣۜTigar⎠⎞ i like your answer it it the only one trying to do something.
0.13 will also add a console command to disable the replay.dat saving permanently for a savegame.
You can work around this right now by adding any simple mod to the savegame, saving it, then removing the mod and saving it again. Factorio will then never create a replay.dat for that save anymore.
