Are There Any Games Which Have Infinite Map/World Like Factorio
Hello,

Title is clear. Just curious for compare - Builder games with unlimited map/worlds...

https://store.steampowered.com/app/860890/

https://store.steampowered.com/app/732050/

(From Voxel Tycoon)
Infinite World
Explore an unlimited, procedurally-generated world filled with unique biomes, from deserts to arctic tundra.

These titles also have infinite map as far as I know.

I highly recommend FortressCraft Evolved. I have more hours into that one then I do in Factorio! It's a little confusing for maybe the first couple of hours, but once it hooks you, watch out! Has infinite map, and you'll be doing a lot of vertical as well as horizontal traversal as you play, more than probably any other factory game out there.

Also recommend Foundry (coming to Steam later, but currently on Itch.IO) for infinite (near-infinite) maps and factory building. This one is super easy to get into.

Evospace is a bit on the slower side, but also infinite maps I believe and has an absolutely beautiful aesthetic. It has the best looking machines and no other factory game even comes close, IMO. No enemies in this one.

Factory Town has infinite maps and is quite a bit of fun as well. It has a mix of city building in it as well.

Lastly, if you've already played Satisfactory then you might want to wait a few months for Techtonica to release. That one looks very promising.

Those games mentioned above are all 3D.

Factorio is 2D (or 2.5D) and I don't really see many 2D factory games with infinite maps being developed much anymore. There are many where you build factories in confined spaces but that doesn't sound like that's what you're looking for. Here are few though:

Shapez - This one is fantastic! I didn't think much of it at first glance but I was hooked after about 5 minutes of playing it. Super intuitive and smooth playing. Plenty of challenge. No enemies.

ReFactory - Quite fun and a bit of a different spin on the Factorio example.

Drill Down - Surprisingly fun and deep (pun intended).

Lifecraft - This is like a factory game in a biological context. It's not out yet, but it's one to keep an eye on.

Oxygen Not Included - Hugely popular. Tremendously challenging, IMO.

Final Upgrade - No infinite map, but pretty big scale. Along with Evospace and FortressCraft Evolved, Final Upgrade is one of the most underrated factory games out there, IMO.

Voxel Tycoon - Infinite maps, has conveyors, but more heavily relies on Trucks and Trains for transporting materials.

I feature over 25 different factory automation games on my YouTube channel with at least a dozen more in my queue to feature in the coming weeks/months. No channel has more.

Thanks for the great suggestions Glidercat! Ive subscribed to your channel. I will definitely look into FortressCraft Evolved and Foundry. [Seems like Foundry will be a real competitor to Satisfactory.]

Let me also list them here:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/983870/

(From Foundry)
Build a factory in an infinite simulated voxel world.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1013540/

Don't know map/world size.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1457320/

Don't know map/world size.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1162350/

Don't know map/world size.

Though they are not infinite-like games, Lifecraft, Oxygen Not Included, Final Upgrade also worth looking.

hey Glidercat - i finally picked up FortressCraft Evolved and all its DLC for a few bucks - and really looking forward to playing it - think i may have seen you recommend it around these forums - and if not you then it was still definitely someone around here quite a while back

definitely going to keep an eye on all those games you mentioned - since you do seem to be an authority on the factory genre :-)

i finally bought Oxygen Not Included recently - and that definitely has a lot to it - although whether i make it to anywhere near the surface remains to be seen lol - but i like all of the complex layered systems building from primitive ones - and i'm going to try and play enough in the next few days to decide if i will add the DLC before the end of the sale (or during the next one)

i keep meaning to buy Shapez - so i'm sure that now i am buying games again after a long hiatus that one will get gobbled up imminently - i enjoyed the demo but was on the fence about whether i wanted to invest the time in it, or instead try some modded Factorio (Space Exploration) - i opted for the mods - but since i'm now enjoying playing more games again it is definitely the time to add this one to the collection

anyway - i shall definitely be checking out the big list of games that you and the OP have curated - although i won't watch the videos till after i have played or if i decide not to buy - to avoid spoilers :-)

i hope the channel is going well :-)

EDIT: also - didn't Astro Colony have a demo before release? which is now gone? or am i imagining things?

Thank you for the kind words, Drizzt!

FortressCraft Evolved is a steal at the sale price, I hope you end up enjoying it. Just give yourself some time to get used to it in the beginning and don't forget to check out the game's wiki.

Shapez has a free demo at: https://shapez.io/ so don't be afraid to give it a try before you purchase. Shapez 2 is in the works and will be a bit more 3D. If you join the Shapez 2 discord, I believe you can try out the current prototypes for free:
https://discord.gg/shapez-2

I managed to get Oxygen Not Included as part of the Epic Game Store's weekly free giveaways. It's a little intimidating and I've only been able to put a few hours into it. I plan to dig in much deeper as soon as I can free up time for it.

I'm still looking for a good overhaul mod to play Factorio with. I've been thinking of doing a playthrough with Krastorio 2 + 248K mod, but I'm not sure yet.

Take care and happy gaming!!! 😺

yeah i figured i would get all the DLC since the game is finished - and it looked like it added a bunch of additional stuff - and the whole package was still amazingly cheap for a game that seems so well regarded

so i am looking forward to giving it a proper try - but i shall avoid the wiki unless i get stuck - i like to try and work things out myself - but obviously if it is a Minecraft situation i might have to look up some recipes lol :-)

yeah i did play the demo a while back and i liked it - but i still do tend to prefer some kind of survival flavor to my games, rather than pure puzzle - but that doesn't change the fact that it is still clearly an awesome game (as well as another one that's available for a bargain price) - and so it is now part of my library :-)

and yes - the sequel looks like it's gonna be something quite special

ah nice - yes it is complex and challenging - i haven't got too far - and have actually done a lot of restarting each time i have learnt something new - either something constructive that i want to try or often some mistake that i want to avoid lol

but definitely loads of systems to play with - but also one of those games that doesn't let you get comfortable on the default survival settings

but again - i got it for a pretty good price - and may even pick up the DLC if i ever make it to the surface and see the limits of the base game

and free is an even better price - so i am sure you will get some value out of it :-)

yeah i have been away from Factorio for a bit - since i ended my moratorium on buying new games i have a whole load of new stuff to play with - and even before then i had been rediscovering Project Zomboid that i hadn't previously gotten into properly - and once i got the hang of it i put in 600+ hours and even made a few mods

and i have also been playing Starship Evo (mainly testing since it's still in heavy development to get the survival features in) and The Infected (200 hours of nicely executed survival, crafting and exploring, which is also pretty hardcore with the current default configuration of the enemies) - and even rediscovered Medieval Engineers now that there is a Community Edition being fixed and improved by some of the amazing modders of that game (who are all professional developers as well i think)

but i do have plans to try out the 248K mod - plus i still want to get a proper Space Exploration run done - and properly play Krastorio 2 - plus i reset all my achievements so those are on my list too lol

i foresee a glorious winter of gaming - so long as i can keep warm and keep paying for the electricity :-)

thanks :-) - same to you - and best wishes - and let us all bask in the glory of this golden age of gaming - where the indie devs are providing us with amazing quantities of quality gameplay at reasonable prices - and hopefully avoiding getting gobbled up by the AAA publishers and having their games locked behind third party accounts and all of the other anti consumer BS that is flooding the mainstream industry

and i just rescanned the list of games you had up above and remembered that i haven't yet checked out Lifecraft or Final Upgrade

definitely loads of great games to check out :-)

not for the first time recently, i wish i was a little bit older so i could retire and just play games through my sunset years lol :-)

Lol; so happy to see I'm not alone in this community of having a aste for those more challenging games... and boy; ONI is definitely one of those.... Much like Factorio there's a lot of depth to that game that's not apparent if you view it with the casual eye... Just the ordeal of getting Oxygen can be a challenge if you start out (though it seems simple at the start) especially once you start noticing that water can be a very rare commodity (though you learn tricks to deal with that ofcourse)...

Guess I'll have to take the word of you guys and get Fortresscraft then... considdering I keep running into you guys on the discussion forums of games I really like as well I doubt you guys will be wrong in voicing your positivity on that game....

Gotta spend carefully though.... coming december the remake of Dwarf Fortress is scheduled for release too :P

lol - yeah i'm still at the early stage of managing food and waste - and doing lots of restarts due to various OCD induced reasons lol - but it definitely seems to be one of the most in depth base and resource management games, especially due to the detailed gas and liquid mechanics - and i haven't even got started with any of the automation stuff

but definitely a game that i am actively looking forward to playing more of

i've still not had a proper play yet - but i loaded it up and did the first few tutorial bits - enough to be confident that when i start playing properly i will be roleplaying as a high tech electronic and mechanical device junkie who crashlanded on a Minecraft planet that is currently in the middle of an apocalypse lol :-)

(EDIT: just had another little play and it does seem almost insanely complicated in terms of the interface and just working out what to do lol - but i am determined to avoid wikis and tutorials while i give it a shot - also it may be worth just spending a buck or so for the main game to decide if you like it, rather than splashing out for all the DLC before you know if you're gonna use them)

lol - i have it wishlisted - although i have never really given the original a proper go - just about to go hunting for that now :-)

well FortressCraft Evolved looks very involved - and massive in scope - so as long as you can deal with the graphics that are like Minecraft meets Far Cry Blood Dragon (the 80's themed DLC that was all garish neon colors - at least in the first level that was the only one i saw lol) - it's not as garish - and more like Minecraft got a techno face lift - and also has a mix of Minecraft blocks and more interesting shapes and textures

definitely seems like loads to do and an interesting experience - probably can't go wrong for a few bucks

and actually i just had an interesting experience by running out of power, which revealed some other interesting mechanics - and then i started to see my first sunrise - and the combination of the Minecraft blocks, and the more complex 3d models for the equipment and mechanisms, and the various other graphical styles gives it a unique graphical atmosphere

i can definitely feel the original feeling i had with Minecraft - but with much more excitement for the sheer scope of the things that i expect to be able to build - and the possiblities of a planet spanning factory - as well as the thrill of exploring and see all this new stuff in this new game

so yeah - nice :-)

but onto a totally different game - and for just under 3 times the price of the full FortressCraft Evolved - i have finally tried Subnautica for the first time - and i have never seen it played before - deliberately avoiding anything about it so it would be a surprise if i ever played it

and wow - even the first few minutes had me in awe - it looks stunning - and feels nice - and seems like it's going to be an amazing experience

so between the 2 of these i reckon i'm going to get a serious amount of building, exploration and survival gameplay for my money

plus i still have all the other games i have bought recently, with at least a few that definitely have significant mileage in them as they stand - and one or two that will gain it as they develop

and definitely a few more games that i am likely to pick up in this sale - and maybe a few more next month

so now i just need to earn enough to retire and i will have plenty of fun stuff to do instead of that "getting a life" thing that everyone goes on about :-)

i had almost forgotten how much fun it is to experience good games for the first time :-)

but still - the Factorio Expansion is likely to be the most expensive game i buy in 2023 - as well as the one that i am most excited for

but it is nice to have some more games competing for the top spots in my personal rankings :-)

and i still need to get back to Project Zomboid at some point - plus that has build 42 coming some time maybe in 2023

ah - tis a golden age of gaming - if only the AAAs and AAA wannabes weren't trying to ruin it all by carpet bombing the industry with data mining, third party accounts, and all the other anti consumer and anti employee BS that they seem to have made the foundation of their business strategies

long live the indies - and may they never be forced to sell out to the AAAs

and now i shall stop waffling and get back to playing - happy gaming to everyone :-)

FortressCraft Evolved has an unlimited map which generates more game world the further you go. The unlimited map is almost completely pointless as the tower defense enemies spawn at four places on the map that do not expand outwards I believe, but if for some reason you wanted to go hundreds of miles away from your main base and mine more minerals than you could ever use in a game you could.

I had my eyes on this one. It looks like a neat idea! It also looks like utter garbage (FaCtOrIo GrApHiCs ArE OuTdAtEd, LoL), but serviceable enough ;)
