You know how Minecraft has texture packs?
Does Factorio has those? Like, is there a mod that changes the sprites/models to look like Star Wars stuff or cowboy things? Can I get an old fashioned steam train? I know there are overhaul mods but those change things. I just want to know if there's one that changes the base look and nothing else.

It's possible to do that but it's a lot of work compared to minecraft.
The reason is that factorio uses 2D sprites so each animated entity has a lot of images.

Given the amount of work required, most artists instead collaborate with modders that make new machines or enemies because there is more demand for those mods.

I sad. :(

Alien biomes is a nice mod that changes the textures of the world. It does change world generation as well though, but it's pretty much just a texture pack.

It is enough to make the game's world feel more alive and interesting though. I highly recommend that mod to everybody.

It also reduces the player's speed massively (with the car maxing out at 30km/h in the worst terrain) so the first thing you will be doing is building concrete over it so you are not going to see any of the new textures...

although if you don't do much driving and mostly use trains you should be ok

plus you can build roads, rather than paving over the whole thing

but still, point taken :-)

also - for people that do use Alien Biomes - do remember to get the Hi Res patch - since it isn't a dependency (or even a recommended mod) for Space Exploration (it is only an optional mod on the Alien Biomes page) - i had to go looking for it when i was curious why the terrain wasn't looking as good as i expected/remembered

Also fair warning, somehow my mod options for it ended up turning off all plant life when I was trying to start a modded playthrough that needs wood. I was like "WTF, why are all of these starts completely barren? Are there seriously zero trees on the entire map? Is this some kind of bug?" Eventually I realized that it was indeed the mod options, but I still have no idea how it ended up with those settings.
