Make ability to queue research the default option
Nothing sucks more than starting your game and realize you forgot to turn research queueing to always. This sucks.

Damn, you've got it tough eh?
Its set up that way for a reason. You can't unlock the research queue until you have first launched a rocket. Just like you can't use blue prints until you unlock construction robots for the first time.

What is the point though? Not being able to queue research is minor nuisance and adds nothing to the game.

Actually you can use BP. And this was one of the biggest ups in the last updates.

The point is that the game reminds you of the technology you just researched which is potentially helpful if you are unfamiliar with the game.

I agree with the OP's opinion.

I would add an option in the main menu that persists through multiple new campaigns. These changes would mean "two defaults map settings," and I am okay with that.

As for those who are newish to Factorio, I would add a "history of researched technologies" UI as a baseline that will also be useful to Veterans too.

You mean like this?
control.lua:
function doMoreStuff() for _, force in pairs(game.forces) do if force.research_queue_enabled == false then force.research_queue_enabled = true end end end -- This step is only run when starting a new save game -- or for mods that are new to an existing one. -- It has full access to the game object and its global table -- and can change anything about the game state that it -- deems appropriate. script.on_init(doMoreStuff)
It would be nice to be able to set an option in settings to do this though.

It's a minor gripe, but having to remember to turn it on every time is a little ironic, for a game about automation.

Unless you use a mod, at the beginning of each new game you have to mine by hand and research automation.

The biggest problem with Factorio is that new map defaults cannot be created from the new game screen. It's quite unintuitive.
Come to think of it, what would make the most sense is if the game simply saved the map settings from the most recent new name. Should be fairly easy, and with a "restore default settings" button (almost) everyone would be satisfied.

Please stop being deliberately obtuse.
Please stop being intentionally dense.

I agree with the OP's position, but it's not terribly hard to remember to set this as you start the game. And if you forget to do it, just restart the game. You should notice it right away, before you have much time invested in that save.
