No I mean a normal hosted server, as it's P2P or something by default but i think it doesn't go through steam dedicated servers. Lan would be doable but stuff like radmin is too much of a hassle to set up (looking into this to have a steam deck run the game on a separate screen without booting me out of a game on my main pc)

so you want to connect to the factory server thats running from your pc when your out in the world with no internet on the steam deck? is that right?

The only possible reason I could see why someone would want to make an online server while using the Steam offline mod would be so someone else can use his acount in online mode, or through family sharing. Which could lead to 2 ppl playing together despite only one owning the game. So I highly doubt that this a possebility. In general you need to be logged into Steam to use the Steam servers, which I think are used by Factorio, so it probably shouldn't be possible.

if hes only going to use it in his own home lan would work perfectly since he would be on the same internet as his pc

Why would that require offline mode?

The intent is to basically have it to run on my account without triggering steam to boot my main pc (running online games or whatever) and the deck itself that's just running on a separate screen to host a server. I have read the reasoning and how family sharing// trying to run multiple games on multiple computers while them being from the same account.
I know that it's possible for offline play (one of the two must be in offline and by default can't play on steam servers)
But I thought Factorio has their own server thing, or a P2P connection, because of their mod server listening and whatnot (pirating the game locks you into base game and single player, right?)

If I'm undertsanding this correctly you want to play factorio on your steamdeck while playing another game on your desktop. If so the easiest thing is to just go to www.factorio.com and download the non-steam version from there. Steamdeck can run games outside of steam just fine. You can even play multiplayer and use the ingame modmanager just fine. You just need to login to the factorio.com account.

You can buy Factorio from Wube's website and play it without steam and therefore it does not matter if Steam is in offline mode.

He already has factorio. He does not need to buy another one. https://factorio.com/support/faq#q-steam-factorio-login

You'll probably want to run the dedicated server you can get from the website, on your main PC, then you'll be able to connect to it from the steamdeck while you're on the same lan. the server won't be attached to steam at all. You'll be able to connect to it from any computer on the LAN that has Factorio at the same time. Then you don't have to worry about synchronizing your saves between the machines either.l
