Building up your base tips?
Like when first building your base what is the best way to do things?
Make like smaller factories that can easily be scaled but moving the finished products by hand when needed? Or do people build conveyors all over the place at the start?

Trying to play on death world, didn't get super far, got all red science techs but got killed when working on unlocking the green ones, didn't have production chain all the way operational yet. So looking for tips on how to perfect build to make it further:)

I start with making miners and smelters, personally.

Death world is just make as much ammo as you can and hand craft everything from the beginning

Hand carrying is a pain. I'll use bricks to build roads to walk/drive on, wall of and defend the patches I'm using, and make long lines of underground belts until I get trains. Once I have time (or bots) I'll clean up a bit and merge every thing.

Not a build tip, but: On Deathworld, don't just research everything, only research what you specifically need and will use. In the same vein, don't overproduce stuff you don't need. Every item you produce emits pollution which makes the biters stronger and triggers their attacks. Up until you have the upper hand against the aliens, e.g. a reliable and automated base defense, tread lightly. In my one successful Deathworld I stopped researching at several points in my playthrough, when the attacks came too frequently, to get more time to build up my defense.

killed meaning you gave up? did you beat non-deathworld before?

if you haven't beaten the vanilla game. do that now. no tips.

if you have beaten vanilla. here's the answer:

if you go on the offensive, yo uneed a lot of ammo. you can shoot and hold a fish in your hand then use that fish to heal. get good at laying down turrets fast and loading them up with ammo and not letting any die. you should understand combat with a non-evolved base and how to clear it efficiently before death world, imho.

This. You're basically spamming creating ammo, researching what's needed and managing pollution best you can to minimize attacks. death world marathon, if you do that, good luck. i haven't found any other way than using that guide before the bus to setup defense asap.

I build slow. Keep your pollution cloud out from over the biters heads and they don't advance. (They send advancement parties, who will develop new, closer clusters- But pollution angry biters spawn differently), but you gotta go cull the herd out from under your pollution. This means before you go turn on that giant new steel smelter, check where the pollution is going. Don't try to turtle up, It's much harder to push out once biters are solid outside.

Ya the playthrough I'm on now isn't death world, but I started with 4 nests within attack distance and that was off tier1 burners and smelters at the start, so spent most my time rebuilding buildings and crafting every spare plate into yellows to go kill them, once I cleared them out teched up and got a car, now on blue science packs and I immediately after getting attacked hunt down the base that sent attack and destroy it. I sometimes go for a drive along my pollution border to see if there are any nests to close, but don't always remember to do that enough so sometimes proactive, sometimes reactive, but never turtle anymore😁

First rocket i launched was on deathworld, just move the spawn area to the furthest you can and its easy to get set early.

After some time playing factorio, you realise, each game mode should be tackled in slightly different ways. The way that Deathworld is played is not the same as Railworld, atleast in the starting phases.

Deathworld has far harder and more numerous enemies; the starting strategy is about reducing pollution, and making good decisions. If pollution is pumped out, and you waste your starting patches, there is a good chance your factory will be over ran, or you will be unable to obtain new resources.

As a game, pretty much all Railworld/Vanilla playthroughs can follow the same steps. Enemies aren't that much of a challenge that they impact how you actually build your base. However, Deathworld, every game is different and depending on the starting patches and nests, strategies can vary wildly. Poor decisions are punished. For someone new to factorio, stay away from Deathworld until you a good understanding of the game. (unless you like punishment)
