Automating wood production?
So I'm playing through a fairly long game using most of the Bob's mods series, about 16 or so mods in total installed.
So far it's crazy fun but I'm hitting a big roadblock in my production chains in that everything requires circuits, which require wooden boards...which need wood.

I haven't found a way yet to "automate" wood and I'm wasting a lot of time manually cutting trees and throwing the wood into my production line.

Does anyone know of a way to produce wood? Or a mod etc? Any help "wood" be appreciated :P

Assuming it's still being update: Treefarm mod

There are several tree farm mods. ... Gee, I couldn't imagine cutting all those trees by hand... eeeg!

With oil, you should be able to make Synthetic Wood, if you've gotten that far.

Yes. The latest bob's mods comes with a treefarm included. To fully automate it you'll probably want filter inserters, but you can semi-automate it even without them.

Wood goes into a factory which outputs seedlings, which go into a greenhouse which produces wood and a few leftover saplings. (requires glass to build; smelt some quartz.)

As the greenhouses are really slow, you can pretty much use one factory to support several greenhouses.

4 greenhouses should be just enough to get you to blue science unless you're fast.

Hmm, I tried those out actually and it wasn't working out for me. I feel like the numbers were off? I'm at work now so I can't check but I feel like it was 10 saplings make 4 wood, but you'd need 4-5 wood to get 10 samples. I assumed it was either broken or needed readjusting...?
Perhaps I'm mistaken, I'm still pretty new to this all >.<

10 saplings makes 10 wood+4 saplings on average. 1 wood makes an average of 1.5 saplings.

If you've got different numbers, you may have some sort of harder crafting mod installed, in which case you'll need to unlock fertilizer to utilize the 10 saplings+fertilizer->30 wood+7.5 saplings, as that should still give you a net return.
...either that or you got unlucky.

The wood/sappling production is randomised but generally averages out fine if you have a lot of greenhouses up and running. Just use lots of filter inserters to sort the sapplings out

it randomised for me but for a negative way i think, i just cant automate wood like the ancient Trefarm Lite mod. i dont even know what kind of stuff i need to activate the Arborium Mod. i builted but neither wood or whatever i can smelt on this mod Arborium ive installed.

Does anyone knows how to install that Trefarm-Lite mod? I cant because of a error message that doesnt have a version on it, but it´s on the list of mods to choose anyway.

Thanks

Bob's greenhouse mod is fine, once you have researched fertiliser. You can then create this setup, which is more than adequate for most production needs:

Deconstruction blueprint makes construction robots harvest wood , you can easily gather 100.000 without mods with very short amount of time if you provide logistic or use ones from modular armor

its something i not knew for long time

here is more to learn

Not a lot of help with Bob's mods, where you need a LOT of wood before you ever get bots :-)

Ok, look, you want something like this to use the farm mod that bob includes:

And if this DOESN'T work, it's because you have some sort of harder crafting mod running in the background; ergo, you will need to unlock fertilizer before you can run this with a net gain.

Note the wood->additional saplings on the left.

Note that my filter inserters are taking advantage of bob's inserter configurability.

I reccoment the AAI Mining Vehicle (https://mods.factorio.com/mods/Earendel/aai-vehicles-miner) programmable to chop down large areas. Quite a bit hard to learn but if you got it its awesome!

It is a bit trickier if you don't have fertilizer. The amount of saplings and wood you get is actually random, and even the amount of saplings you craft out of wood is random.

Essentially what you need are three things:
1 A chest for saplings that feeds back into the greenhouse with a fast inserter to take priority.
2 A "buffer" for wood to be turned into extra saplings, without fertilizer you will never produce enough to refill the greenhouse. The slowest inserter going from assembler to greenhouse here so the above takes priority.
3 Seperate the saplings and wood coming out of the greenhouse with smart inserters. (that part is duh)

I personally spread them out and give them their own saplings and wood buffers, but that's your choice...I play on peaceful so I can see space being an issue otherwise. Avoiding bottlenecks with taking product out of greenhouses and running out of saplings can be annoying otherwise.

I was so annoyed with the random thing I edited the recipes to knock it off.

Oh, just a few days ago I struggled with the same problem. Managed to construct a basic scalable setup without fertilizer (haven't got there yet). Here's how it looks: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=844048837

You can scale it up-down pretty much infinitely.

Not true: yes, sapling production is kind of random and annoying, but you will always produce more, then consume and excess wood goes onto bus.
