Red to blue belts.
Hello. I want to upgrade my red belts but when i use blueprints to upgrade what is already down the red belts are in the way. Do I have to delete red belts first then lay blue belts? If so it would be quicker to rebuild factory.
Thanks for any help.

There is an upgrade tool in the toolbar that allow you to upgrade belts easily (assuming you have construction robots of course).
If you are doing things manually, there is a quick replace function that allows you to "place" the other tiers of belts on top of the old ones to replace it quickly.

Thanks for quick reply. I make a blueprint of my already made factory (part of it) and click on the green upgrade box in the blueprint options screen. The blueprint now has blue belts. I save it and put it over the factory where i took original blueprint but the red belts are in the way and i cant lay new upgraded blueprint.
I hope this makes sense.

You can use the green upgrade tool to select objects in the game world to upgrade the objects. By default this will upgrade red belts to blue belts.

And Assemblers from T1 to 2, and 2 to 3. And inserters from yellow>blue>green. And furnaces. And...

Long story short, put the green upgrade item onto a toolbar, then right click it to set a custom item-specific upgrade.
(in this case, red to blue belt. I'd also select red to blue splitters and UG belts, if you want)

Thanks. I have got it now. I was using blueprints rather than the upgrade tool.
Thanks again for the help.

You can make an upgrade 'blueprint' to up or downgrade anything, just drag the tool to your bar and you can adjust inserters and belts etc.

If I'm not mistaken you can shift left click the blue print to force it down. Anything with red "X"s will be removed by the construction robots and then replaced by the appropriate items. Caution should be used with this method. If you are off by one tile the robots will tear every thing up and then replace it. Its much better to use the upgrade planner.

The forced blue print option is much better used in uncleared territory where you haven't yet cleared out all the rocks and trees.

Shift placing of blueprints will mark trees and rocks for deconstruction, but specifically will NOT mark any player buildings for deconstruction. They cannot use force-place blueprint to force an upgrade. The only way is to either mark for deconstruction ahead of time and place blueprint, or use the upgrade planner (preferred).

Good to know. I've only used forced placing in uncleared terrain.
