Pole connections
I am really surprised to see they haven't changed yet the fact you place poles in a grid pattern, and they go and connect with an oblique wire making it a spiderweb of cables, and so you're forced to pick a piece of copper wire and delete the oblique connection - which is very tedious.
Why can't they make it just smooth to work with such as DSP? x_x

I feel like this is the best they can do. Like, any tweaking makes the problem worse. If your poles are in even squares from each other they tend to be gridlike with few errors.

My input is that this is the best possible system.

not the best they can do for sure. Because they could at least remove the tedium of me picking a piece of copper wire (which sometimes I don't have and need to craft, just extra tedium) by having an hotkey dedicated to delete pole connections - if I could simply press "\" and click a wire to delete it, then this wouldn't even be bothering me

I am not an expert on digital signal processing so this is going to be a bit of a guess but maybe it's because Factorio has complex signals which allow you to build computers inside Factorio? None of that would be possible if newly built power poles automatically connected to a randomly picked power pole.

i'm alright with the auto connections (aside from when dragging). i'm not alright with blueprints not remembering the copper wire connections. :steamfacepalm: i have a rather complex science layout that breaks when pasted.

When was the last time you played? Blueprints have remembered copper wire connections for months now.

i've been playing 1.0 for a playthrough i've slowly been working on.
i updated tonight to help someone with rail signals. i was always told "it's working as intended, the devs are not going to change this."

thank god they finally came to their senses.

A bit off topic, but there's a mod that can help you with this issue, it's called "power grid comb".
I've had this mod installed for ages now, way before the 1.0 update with the new pole wire mechanics; it's a must have for me, because i hate seeing disorganized power pole connections both while playing and on the fullscreen map.
Give it a try, it will solve your problem(s), hopefully!

I kinda like seeing the "randomness" of the power grid wires, at least to a point. It looks like a proceduraly generated thing.

However, all of my blueprints have the copper wires arranged in as perfect a grid as I can get them.
