The Lone Iron Stick
Anyone else always finding that one random Iron Stick in your inventory? Where does it come from? How did it get there? Is this some sort of test? WHO SENT YOU IRON STICK?!

The most likely answer is that you picked it up somewhere.
If you didn't pick iron sticks from anywhere, the rail recipe only takes 1 iron stick per batch and you make 2 from an iron plate so you can end up with a single one that way as well.

It is the result of a suboptimal inventory management.

Haha Thank you MisterSpock and I I think you are right Fel. I must be making an uneven amount of railroad.

The one that really gets me is the single underground belt (so half of a complete pair, mostly unusable). In every game I somehow end up with one by around yellow/purple science. Can never figure out where its mate went.

Well, unpaired underground belts and pipes can be tricky to find.
That's why this mod has been one of the nice quality of life tools for a long time:

I actually use unpaired undergrounds to end a belt where I want to continue along that particular horizontal or vertical with another item so that I don't get accidental contamination by ending with a filtered splitter.

The other reason that I have unpaired pipe to grounds is that I run over them with the car and destroy one end.

Nothing like the rush of unbridled peddle to the metal in the center of your factory. I lose so many electric poles that way.

Its not the center of my factory. The center of my factory pre-mega base is a very large bus that does not include liquids. Liquids come in from the side by rail. I frequently drive on the bus when I'm picking up material to go build elsewhere. Belts, splitters, and underground belts don't get damaged when I drive over them. I can hop out of the car and ride one of the perpendicular belts down to where the things I need are stored without any hassles at all.

The problem is when I'm driving through or near the refinery. Even with roads clearly marked with hazardcrete and my banks of pipe to grounds all lined up nice and neatly, a 10 tile gap between pipe to grounds ins't always enough to save them from my fumble fingers.

I often use walls around my factory, not against bitters (those are further out if there at all usually) but against my own reckless driving.
I lost count of how much infrastructure I destroyed with the car or the tank but even just the pipes or power poles are in the easily in the three digits.

I imagine my construction robots consider how such a reckless buffoon could ever muster the science to build them in the first place. They must look at their existence like Rick's butter robot realizing all they are designed to do is clean up my mess.
