Placing Train Stops

Is there some rule or something when to comes to attaching a train stop to rails? I have a long straight section next to some ore I want to collect. However, I can't get fine a spot to place the train stop no matter how I arrange the rails.

The annoying part is that another section of rail just up from this one is working fine and I can place the train stop, so I don't understand the issue I'm having. Any help?

A bit more details on what you mean might help but here are a few basic things about train stops.

Trains only "see" signals and stops that are on their right hand side of the track (based on their current direction if they are double-headed).

If you only see the green squares on one side of the track when placing train stops or signals it means that the signals you placed made that block 1-way, not allowing you to place something on the other side (since trains are not supposed to go in the other direction).
If this is not intentionnal, you might need to search for the signal (or signals) causing it, it will always be either the previous or the next signal on the rail so it should be fairly easy to find.

As it turns out, Train Stops can't be placed if the rail is going diagonal, even if it is straight, but thanks for the help anyway.
